1> I'm setting a cap for thread sizes....15,000 posts. After LOTS of research and monitoring, I've come to the conclusion that monster threads like TUT and the Metro wars only serve to further slow the servers. The originals are locked, and TUT #1 will be split into threads of 15k max size...that may take a few days to complete.

2> Ordered another 8gig of PC100 memory today....that matching 8g will be used in the existing db server...the db server presently runs on "only" 6gig...with quad processor 900mhz Xeon, dual power, four 18g 10k SCSI's in Raid5....

3> I'm shipping a 3rd DL580 to Reno next week, it will be installed as an image server...primarily for attachments/avatars in the forum, but also for the other tech/info areas over time. This one is a quad processor 700mhz Xeon, dual power, four 18g 10k SCSI's in Raid5, and will likely run the 6g memory coming out of the db server. Not sure on the time schedule of the install, but it was already on the fall list.

may do some shoppin in the next week-two for some 15k SCSI's for the db server too...can't hurt ;)

So, we were right all along? TUT's heft warped the time/space continuum?

As long as Woody's behind it, I'm okay. And I guess since Wristpin was the King TUT as of last count, maybe his post should be first.

And, check out my new sig line. . . .

    Actually, quite the opposite:

If TuT's huge bandwidth prompted Woody to upgrade the server yet again, then TuT was good for everyone on the I8HMUD board!

    :)

The Army did - they got sick and tired of people hacking their junk. Happened a few years ago. All of their web stuff is hosted on Apple servers.
