Either way, I am pulling the motor. Just want to know which end to start on for a rebuild. Also buying another motor to swap into my (new to me) 96 lex80

youtube short to startup.

Oil pressure went up 2/3rds, seemed to run fine otherwise

Sounds like valve train to me...if so, could be just a top end job and not the full monty!

A valve will tick at half the speed of the engine.

A rod will tick or knock at engine speed.

Also a screw driver or mechanical stethoscope will halp pinpoint.

It's a rod knock.

Since it quiets down after the first 5 seconds of operation, indicating oil pressure finally made it there. The valve train will not do that as it is an overhead valve with no hydraulic lifters.

PO said rod knock, I think it probably is. Either way, I am picking up a motor and replacing the whole drivetrain to the Tcase.
