That is really stretching the definition of art.

That's a peep show, and a sick one at that. One audience member at a time? WTF?

there is no definition of art.
I would like to hear what the artist thinks the message of the whole thing is supposed to be???
I don't think I would go watch it, her boobs are way too small.

It is up to the user to get the message from the "art."

    that's cheating.
It looks to me like a scam-do something very out of the ordinary just for the sake of it-and call it art. but I could be wrong.

That is no more cheating than saying that art has no definition. :flipoff2:

Perhaps not. But if there is no definition, that would mean anything and everything could be considered art. A naked woman hugging a dead pig is not art, IMHO.

I agree with you on both counts. pretty much anything can be considered art by some individual. And the pig hugging does nothing to me.

However, there were lots of times in history when the definition ofart was dictated by people in power, and none of these times ended well.

I don't know if I would call this art, but it's definitely not GOOD art. "Shock art" explored all of these avenues in the seventies, been there done that. Ana Mendieta, Carolee Schneemann, and others have done similar stuff to this that's much more innovative. It's not art I necessarily enjoy, but there have been some good points here, a lot of art is about exploring the definition of art and what counts as "good art."

Having said that, I work at the "nation's" museum of modern and contemporary art, and I think this is pretty uninspiring (not to mention gross).

    I like small boobs.

The best part of that article is the PETA idiot being an obvious idiot. We've been eating pigs for freaking ever, and killing for food is innate to the human experience. To kill for food is something that should be experience personally - few of us in the modern world get to experience it and that's why stupid crap like PETA get's birthed. No reason that butchering a pig can't be a deeply spiritual experience and lend itself to art. The nudity isn't necessarily for titillation, but part of the message.

    Art. Maybe even good art.

    I like small boobs.

That chick is an idiot. They let them out of asylums and the product they produce is called art. Line up a few eccentric rich fools and you've got an eclectic audience. It is just one more indication of the decline in our society and tolerance for deviancy.

Monet, Degas, and Mozart were artists. This woman is a psychopath desperate for attention.

So you're saying you don't like small boobs? :flipoff2:

Art is often controversial....sometimes that's the point, sometimes not.....performance art is the most difficult to judge...

She wrote on the gallery's website: 'When I cut pig I have an urge to delve both hands into the belly, to meld into her warm flesh, my blood and her blood.'

Performance art is tough - it's kind of like modern dance in that way.

"Well, it's not supposed to make sense…"

    or

"Hmmm, if you have to ask…"

There was one performace artist who did some crazy s*** - can't remember the guys name. He had someone shoot him in public once, another time he was "crucified" to the back of a VW and backed into Manhattan traffic - that sort of thing...

Personally, I've never seen much of it that's inspired/horrified/goaded me at all. There are certain forms/movements of art that just go so far off the beaten path it's hard to consider them art. That said, there are so many "artists" today who work so conventionally and who are so dull, it's hard to call them artists/what they do art.

They can't all be Giacometti or Picasso.
Sometimes they are just a pathetic attention whore cuddling a dead pig...
