Third member removal problem (1 Viewer)

Hi guys,

This is my first post over here. I have been watching the board for awhile now and have been really impressed with the information here. I have a 74' fj40 and I am having problems getting the third member to come out. I have removed the axle shafts and all of the nuts around the front of it. Is there anything else that is holding it on? Thanks in advanced,

Stick a screwdriver between the third and the housing and gently pry.

Put a jack under the third housing near the pinion, come back in an hour or two, the third should have separated some from the axle housing enough to pry with a long screwdriver.

Yep, what they said. Just be real sure you really do have all the nuts off the housing, and axle shafts out...Alan

take a 10 lb maul and give it a couple good waks itll come off

Thanks a lot guys. I finally got it this morning. I used a 2x4 and large hammer. I think it was the original gasket.
