What is the story on the bench seat? To my knowledge those were never offered in the US market. Currently have a bench seat in my 3/79 FJ40 which is a FJ40LV-KCJA just like yours. Mine I know the 60% section came out of a Middle East truck.

@Living in the Past - Yes, non-US. Mine came from a mudder that had a Saudi truck I believe. I love bench seats and jumped on the chance to buy one for mine. Also, I have a family of 5.

Mine also have three layers of fabric on them! I have heard that they are very into interiors and fabric in the ME. It was very difficult getting the backing plate on the driver side (it didnt come with one). The outer layer is a light gray, very durable and soft felt, much preferred over vinyl IMHO.

Cant wait to try them out, im sure the dog will like it too. The original center console was a waste of space too

yellow and black wire is oil pressure sensor. hiding right forward of starter with a round nipple connection. wiring diagram helped

thank you @ mrldcty thats what i needed

Last weekend got about about 6hrs in the Tent between yard work, lake time with family (caught a few bass and a sunburn), and church.

prepped engine for startup:
-new oil/filter
-new spark plugs/wires
-primed engine by running drill/flat head in Dist. slot - Oil pressure gauge works!
-hooked up battery/starter/alternator wiring
-worked on fuse panel, & other random wiring, check voltages/currents troubleshoot issues
-eliminated extra wiring of all sorts. alarm, tachometer, off-road lights, etc.
-install gas tank rubber filler hose. forget to install skid plate, need to detach one end of hangers and install before adding fuel
-Zachary and Jordan (6,9) removed old bumper and were very excited to help

Next To Do:
-fill with gas, install fuel filter
-Set timing
-find TDC
-find backup light switch and double check/install
-rewire taillights
-wire front markers
-add another ground and check ohms to alternator

Got to turn the key to "on"! rear markers, headlights/beams functioning. tailights need help. Buzzer sounds, wow
havent heard that in 15 years. Horn Worked for a minute when Kids bumped it, then stopped working. Need to add ground
to engine block, hoping that does the trick.

here are shots of the fuse panel for reference. the new one Dad got does not match perfect (3:1, 2:1, 3:1 OEM and new 3:1, 3:1, 1:1, 1:1) but should work. I have a blue wire (in place of grn/red) and a brown wire (ground) that do not show up on wiring diagrams as such. Need to find a home for the horn relay. cant find pics anywhere and not showing up on wiring diagrams??

Been a busy few weeks squeezing time in here and there down in the tent getting prepped to drive/start. Had my buddy over last week and Dad was in town and we tried to start her. Turns out I was 180 out after the engine priming, and she almost wanted to go after fixing that, it was really exciting. Got to hear the key start chime! Also was not getting fuel. checked all lines (all clear), replaced some lines, and pulled pump. There was wasp debris in the open hole on the pump, and i was not getting any suction when pumping the lever that goes into the block by hand. waiting on pump had me doing little jobs:

-bleed clutch, thinking slave is out, purchase from Napa for 40 bucks. rust color going going in reservoir, pedal had to be bust loose
-reinstall door hinges, holy cow what a job getting the upper nuts in. Thankfully upper one wasnt pulled when i got to passenger side
-secure and clean up some more wiring
-add dash trim (clips are found!!!)
-rivet 4x4 instructions plate back on glove box door and install
-put in kickers
-mount new lap belt for front center (seat belt planet - “camel” color matched best).
-drill and mount rear reflectors and 4x4 badge

fuel pump replaced and the window now shows fuel. she will not start though. the #1 side of the carb is not getting fuel. will be trying a clean out of the jet unless anyone has other wisdom to offer

Got some tent sessions in the his weekend. Carb issues have me working on body stuff to stay busy. Got hard top walls, and rear doors/hinges on. Working on lock/latch etc. Got rear step and bumper pads on and installed pop out windows. Wired up and installed the dome light, wouldnt mind wiring up and adding a second to the back seat, got two extras. Needing to purchase some weather stripping for doors.

Hinges, doors, and top fitment more time consuming than expected. Front doors going to be a chore LOTS of parts - contemplating bringing inside to A/C.

Starting to marvel at Toyota engineering as I get deeper into all the intricacies of this vehicle.

re-built carburetor. Again, surprisingly smooth job for a carb rebuilding noob. Good Lord granted me tons of patience. Still will not start :(

Landmark day yesterday got the 40 fired up! Dizzy was pointed at 2 instead of 12 and inwas
igned with the line not the BB on flywheel. lots of smoke burning off. sounds loud with air filter off. needs tuning bad. symptoms:
-will not idle
-rpms running high
-thermostat not working

will be purchasing a vacuum guage and studying manual to try and wrap that up. might be taking apart top of carb and adjusting float. I did not bend it or adjust at all during rebuild and have since learned that might be needed.

i pointed the timing light at it and there was nothing obvious showing on the fly wheel???

i twisted/jimmied the dizzy to adjust and all the way clockwise (i think) does bring rpms down.

looking for advice on t-stat and idle/rpm issues. it seems like it is running rich but not sure. twisting the idle mixture screw didnt seem to do much…

headliner went good, went with specter bright white one. thanks for advice about glue amount, i used the whole can and overlapped strokes. i siliconed the rubber gasket on too.

gettin there...
- Hard top installed!
- more fartin around with doors; lots of adjustment and now window issue (both sides dont want to roll up all the way)
- hood and latches installed. thinking original latches look cooler. Dad bought shiny new ones that just seem cheap and too nice
- working on vacuum lines and idle adjustment
To Do :
-install windows
- bleed, inspect, clean all 4 brakes
- install door weather stripping (what a PITA, first back door did not go smoothly) and micellaneous little WS parts
- wash and clean up engine bay
- figure out why the cat sensor wont stay put
- install air intake
- test drive in back yard ???

got 2 quotes for insurance:
Hagerty 800/yr
American Collectors 250/yr

big difference. Advice appreciated on who you all are using. I valued the rig at 42k from latest similar BAT auction.

can someone with a 2 port manifold gas filter please confirm routing of the vacuum hoses. is one wide open? I have conflicting diagrams in the toyota emissions control manual. and mine are both hooked into the double hard line coming up from manifold.

also, should I pull the MGF and replace it? or can i service it? are they common to go out?

I don’t remember you stating whether yours is federal or California emissions? The diagram marked “figure 4-4” is for California.

Your diagram is concentrating on the EGR circuit only, that’s why it appears to look like the other nipple on the “gas filter” is blocked off. The filter is really just a manifold vacuum source to hook up to.

ya it is CA and I saw 4.4. It is the only spot where the lines go somewhere, amongst multiple others where it dead ends like the port on the HAC
