How tough is the roof of the '74 FJ40? As I've mentioned before I'm buying my friend's FJ, which is in parts but compete, and the roof is peeling paint, etc. It really needs some attention. Can you sand on it much without damaging it beyond repair? Is there a faster way than expending a lot of time & elbow grease to get it ready to be repainted? The interior is what sucks the most. No overhead. Should there be? If so, can a new overhead be bought? Thanks again.

Yes you can sand it just fine. You can have it media blasted (sand blasted) but they will have to be careful to not blow holes through the steel with the sand. The top fiberglass piece can be found on the net. And the headliner can be found also. Do a google search. A lot of folks just take the liner out and either roll on some kind of bedliner, paint it, or just leave it.
