I found some info on this from 12, 13 years ago, but wanted to see if someone has had a successful repair. I noticed that my LX-450 slips in reverse when I have my off-road trailer attached. And, is this a job for a reputable transmission shop or someone like ACC garage. Under normal conditions, with no trailer attached, no slip. In a situation where the trailer is attached and there is some grade, it slips, only in reverse. Does not slip with CD engaged in low.

Toyota sent out a TSB or two on the topic (A343F transmission chatter reverse), basically has to do with swapping some check balls in the valve bodies in some A343F transmission depending on date of manufacture (note the entire transmission does not need to be dropped or rebuilt).

IIRC a few people have successfully swapped out the check balls
and posted up the process.

Here's one discussion from 2007 you may have already found:

Here's a thread discussing the Transgo shift kit with photos:

And a source for the kit (double check correct part number):

I called a Land Cruiser specialist out west and he also suggested to check the drive flanges on the front axel. Not sure why it would be in reverse? He asked if it did it with the CDL engaged. In low, it does not. But in high with the 7 pin mod, it does. Not sure what to think at the moment but will be investigating when time allows.

Update: Upon ACC's suggestion, took the LX to Landmark Transmissions in Atlanta. Tranny is currently being rebuilt.

Would you care to say what they quoted you?

Rebuilding the entire transmission or just the valve body??

Just an update. Got the tranny rebuilt. All slip has been resolved. Also, I did not realize how much the LX was struggling until I got the transmission done. Now, very smooth and gets up to speed quicker. Also maintains speeds on cruise control without downshifts. Wasn't planning on spending the money because the seller told me it needed absolutely nothing, Nothing except a baseline for oil leaks, power steering pump, panhard bushings, etc. And a tranny rebuild. Paid too much for the rig, but the body and paint is in great condition, now baselined, and etc. Live and learn, but it is NOW what it was represented as at the sale. Great machine.
