What does the “AMV NTV” mean on the yellow placard?
I can answer that one for you- AMV does stand for “armored vehicle” hence why it has slower speed limits than “NTV” which stands for “non-tactical vehicle” AKA any sort of rental we rent overseas, danger rangers, etc. so in the theater this truck was utilized, those are the overarching speed limits for the two categories of vics.

dude, solid find.

Nolan, this is awesome.

I loved my poverty pack HZJ80 that I bought from @joekatana and is now owned by @davegonz. That truck does indeed wear 17” new Hilux steelies...I liked them so much I managed to grab 2 more sets for future builds.

I wonder if Champagne Imports swapped in US spec front and rear axles, and just kept the full time manual t case? If so, you just need manual hubs and correct birfs and you’re part time again.

Very, very cool.

If you are suggesting that this 80 would have originally been equipped with locking hubs I am almost positive it didn't. I could be misunderstanding what you are saying though.

My FZJ75 without locking hubs drives just fine on and off the road. No way I would bother to change it to free wheeling front hubs.

Agreed.

I never understood why GCC Cruisers never came with free wheeling front hubs while the rest of the world, including Africa gets them. Both old and new.

That is bizarre. Why in the world would Toyota put a full manual HF1A without locking hubs???

All 40s were shipped to the US without hubs until 1979 I think was the year....

I think it has the same drive train as my '94 FZJ75 but it's still carbed.

I lied. Mine has a 1FZ-F engine but I think they still have the same transmission, transfer and axles.

@wngrog, those full manual HF1A 80 series cases are rare and pretty damn difficult to come by in the states, at least. It seems unusual that Toyota would use a t case that conferred an extra, unused function (2H) on a truck that they intended to use as full time 4WD.

Maybe because it’s less wiring? No electronic actuator to have to include?

Brother, your guess is as good as mine.

Loaded the Summit wheels up in Ole Blue this am and took a 45 mile ride to see my boy @wct49 for a set of Yokohama MT G003s in 285/75-16” flavor

I have a thread in the tire section on the TRUE mounted size of 33x10.50-15s mounted on trucks. I take a square and a level and get measurement. It’s crazy how much difference most are.

Just for anyone wondering, this is the 255/85-16s on 16x6 City Racer wheels with 3.75” backspace

32.25” tall and 9” wide at 32# pressure

The 285/75-16 Yokos on 16x7 Summit wheels are the same height and 10.5” wide

Great thread as usual. I have been running the Yokahamas as well as a few friends. So far, they have been a great tire.
Thanks to you for basically informing me about them.

New socks and shoes look fantastic.

Finished up the polish on everything but the roof. I may have to take a day off from this tomorrow depending on how bad my body hates me for this

This body is in remarkable condition. A few tiny dings. Super straight. No sign of it ever being painted or repaired.

Super happy with the tire/wheel combo. This truck is getting stock height OME springs so it will likely come up 1-2” but not enough to make the 33’s look small
