In 1979 Toyota produces the limited edition of Land Cruiser 40 “the mighty BJ”. Another name Toyota RV or RV80.
Only 200 cars, Japan only. Blue or black color, white rims, chrome bumpers, black hood locks, spare tyre cover, front disk brakes, “velour luxury seats”.

I wonder if someone has additional info about this limited edition?
May be @Johnny C ?

There is a black one here on mud... I need to find it ... it was also a 79

I remember that he had said it was orgininal paint ...a few mud guys didn’t agree lol

I had conversations in the past about black cruisers ... stock color ... but... struggled to find concrete info on them

Had no idea there was a blue special as well ... I had a feeling it would have been for a year or two

Thanks for posting them up

Have something more to go on now as well

Cool stuff...
No rollbar?
Interesting how they didnt use long jumps if no rollbar...

Interesting, those appear to have the trim panels that were used in the BJ42LX which in Australia had addition rear seating, zebra patterned seats, 3 windshield wipers, and often fitted with accessories/upgrades like 5sp gearbox, power steering and air conditioning.

Interesting to see the words "metal top" written on the spare tire cover in your first photos.

Does this mean the typical upper metal side pieces, or did this special version come with a steel roof panel like the FJ45 pickup trucks?
