So I figured i would start a build thread for this turd I'm way too involved in. It's a 1978 that will be getting sprung over and stretched by flipping the springs. 37's will be the tire of choice with maybe widened stock wheels. Here are some progress pics since starting a couple weeks ago. Brown Santa has been bringing stuff damn near everyday.

Pulled the old body off that was pretty rough with rust and half ass patching. Picked up a 73-74 tub to use instead. I like the barn door style better. Anyway, that had about 235lbs of bondo and 126lbs of fiberglass in it. Makes no sense to me, why people do that. So with all that off I gt a pretty good starting point. Cut the old quarters out of the '78 tub and mocked them into place. May have to go back some more once I flip the springs. Should push the axle back 4-4 1/2".

Sandblasting on Saturday. Then the frame work will begin. Shackle reversal stuff came the other day, so that will start as well.

Sand blasting was a success today. Got a new pack of consumables for the plasma cutter in the mail. Tomorrow the fun begins.

Picked this up Saturday. Like I really needed it. Floor boards, a little engine work, redo the seats and drive it.

So the '78 project has been stood up in the corner of the shop and my focus and all parts have shifted to the '70 FST. I love this thing. The F and 3 speed will be pulled for the 2F and 4speed in the '78 chassis. The axles will be swapped as well. The front floors will be cut from the old '78 tub and and getto fabbed into place.

That looks awesome.
If you want to practice putting in a rear bed floor rear sill and mid bed on a 77 for practice let me know and I will run mine over there.
You're such a generous person!

Got the axles pulled this morning. Motor is loose and ready to be pulled. Frame is prepped for rust converter and paint. On Vacation next weekend so hopefully the rear sill will be here by Oct. It's only been on order since July.

Got the body off the '70 frame and sitting on the '78. Got the firewall cut out of the parts tub and mocked into place and ready to weld in. I did this to be able to run a power brake booster. I bit the bullet and ordered floor pans for the front from Real Steel and will be getting everything ready to weld into place once they show up. Rockers will be cut out this weekend and patched with Real Steel ones I already have. still have to patch the rear corners as well. I have those also.

Looking good!

You will be glad you did the firewall swap. I wish I did it on mind. It gets tight up there with the booster extension.

I thought about it for a while but after taking measurements 120 times I figured what the hell, why not now while its easy to get to.
