Well as it turns out that great deal on that drivetrain was still a great deal, but as usual the curse of the brown truck had to rear its ugly head first. The engine looked great, as did the Tcase. But the trans looked like it sat at the bottom of the ocean. My buddy jacob and I took it apart, it was completely seized. We actually managed to ‘fix’ it. I bought an $80 trans off marketplace as a spare but still wanted to install the rusty one just to see if it would work. But jscob didn’t want to help me pull it again if it didn’t so we installed the $80 one and the rusty one is just a spare now.
Nice collection of badges (even if you "don't need no stinkin' badges"). Jeff is on the lookout for some... Seeking vintage off-road truck badges
so I managed to attach the complete wrong photos to the thread but yeah I have a badge problem, I have well over 100 I have scavenged.

Here’s the pictures I meant to post, Free All saved the day.

She’s been doing pretty well. She had a vacuum leak that I think is where the head meets the intake. It has a fresh gasket so I’m not exactly sure how I managed that. And it runs real rich at idle. Seems pretty good when in the gas though. I ran it up a hill pretty hard today and then cut it off and coasted and pulled a plug so I could see what it looked like in the power band and it seems fine. I also replaced the front main seal. It was leaking bad and hitting the fan and spraying everywhere.

I also fixed my tail lights, there was some super sketchy twist and tape wiring going to the tail lights and I managed to fix it up by soldering and heat shrinking each joint. I’m still honing my soldering skills but they are getting better and should work

@Pick it is the same truck, @4LowandSlow did talk me into a bad decision. He sent me a sick ‘92 SAS minitruck with lots of goodies. But now I’m back to wanting an 80 again. So my head is spinning trying to decide what to get.

@JohnVee you do have a valid point, but at least it’s entertaining

You had an 80. Why did you get rid of it?

I wish I never did, I shouldn’t have because I can’t find one for close to what I sold mine for that’s actually a good platform. They are all rusty or crazy money. I sold it because I was terrified of another head gasket blowing. I should’ve had Adam do the HG when he swapped the engine and just kept the rig and fixed the minor little details on it that needed to be addressed. If only I could turn back time.

If I manage to get my hands on another one I am immediately doing a preventative headgasket. Even if it doesn’t need it. Just to be extra safe.

Well then, here you go! 3X locked with a fresh spare head and HG sitting in the trunk. Looks clean and price is decent too.

You know that really isn’t a bad deal. I was gonna get an unlocked one and stick the front e locker axle in it that’s sitting in my garage but I reckon I could get a locked one and sell my e locker axle. Or just keep hoarding parts lol
