The rotopax (2) mounts upfront are tacked on. The tailgate gets some work this weekend as the hardware I think I’m using has arrived.

I got the spare tire winch welded on the trailer. I have a cleaner photo so you can get a better idea of it.

What about this as the off road spare location? Thoughts?

The tailgate has 21 parts, hmmmm. I upsized my welder ground clamp since I’m starting to close the open ends of my tubes.

I like the Rotopak and spare mount underneath. Are you carrying two spare tires?
My opinion is to put a tongue toolbox on the front with enough room to access the Rotopaks, and the spare/s underneath. This keeps the tires more protected from UV, and keeps the weight lower. Just my $0.02

I didn’t explain well enough. When on the road the tire is underneath, easy decision. The front position is for wheeling only or for running two spares.

Tack it in one day, grind it out the next day cause it hits the rear receiver. Just another oops on the way to figuring it out. I want the tailgate to have the ability to swing all the way down. Also I’m outta 1” square tube.

Might think about using some C Jacks instead of the jacks you have. Lot simpler and don’t have a tendency to move around and they store very flat.

Thanks, but too late, I bought them and welded the mount on. This is the 2018 version. I do plan to remove them and store them in the trailer bed for all travel.

I will keep the comment in mind if these perform poorly.

by the way: “Thanks” for all the time you must put in on Mud it’s by far the best forum I have ever used.

I went to pickup the trailer’s sheet metal floor pan, sides and fenders. I have lots of work planned for the weekend.

I decided to drill and tap for the Destaco 341 latches, 5/16 18. It was not a smooth process. I think I would recomend thru bolts. Here is the remade vertical section from 3 posts to 4.

Today had it’s frustrating moments with a broken bolt to be drilled out. A filet weld on the hinges, that in the end, had to be ground 80% out to get the tailgate to close again. That was a operator error.

I started to fab up the supports that the cargo rail bolts to. This will hold in the pan.

One side of the cargo pan supports are put on. In addition I’m looking at front tongue tire mounting approach.

Welded the remainder of the pan/tub supports in and did the grind them smooth task. In two and a half weeks, I’m doing 300 miles and 3 nights with the trailer. I have plenty more work to do.

Sheetmetal makes the trailer look way different. Also the rear receiver sticks out right thru where I want the tailgate to swing down. I cut it off so I can cut it shorter and move it inboard.

Inch by inch I’m moving forward in the build. Sizing the tailgate 16ga sheet metal to fit. Sanded and primed one side of all the other sheet metal.
