That's not a FJ40! It's a FJ55!

I was looking at the old photoshop post https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=34361&page=2 and I have to say the 55 style two tone pictures look great. They so remind me of my old 55. Looking at the specs and pics the FJ cruiser has much more of a 55 lineage then a 40. It has non-removable hard top and doors, seating for 5 in the standard arrangement, the wheelbase is almost identical, 5 doors (sort of), a semi comfortable interior, etc. It looks to me like they style it more after the 55 but I think that marketing refer to the 40 because it is much more iconic.

I now understand why when I first saw the FJ Cruiser I said "Man that is really freaking ugly... I want one". :D I have been searching for a rust free 55 for years now but I haven’t been able to find one. Low and behold they are building a new one! It has almost everything I want and the price is definitely right. I guess I won’t need that extra 2F engine in the garage, or the other 5 boxes of parts for that matter…

I miss my pig,
Kerry

I agree. It looks more like a 55 than a 40. I bet it is not as "stout" as either, but it does have that likable ugly appearance.

Yeah I doubt it is as "stout" but I from what I seen I still think it will be a reliable capable off roader.

I think I just puked a little bit in my mouth.

Alright, I should have said a new *version* of the old one. No it's not a 55, but it seems to me a lot like a modern version of one. Up until now I haven't been interested in any American market cruiser newer then a FJ60. All the others ones have been to luxury (no offense to the FJ80 and 100 brethren). Now the FJ Cruiser is something I could actually hose out after I get it sunk in the mud. :)

Your problem is that you would get tired of it, ditch it for a 4Runner, then perhaps go out and do something like building a Unimog. :flipoff2:

Brian, I should have known you would have replied to this post. :) I didn't get tired of my 55 I just ran out of money to keep fixing it after 6 years. I admit, I am lazy. I want a new one that isn't going to need a bunch of 35 year old parts replaced every few months and that my wife and I would use for a daily driver. For the time and money it would take to fix up a 55 to how I would want it, makes a FJ Cruiser look real tempting.

Besides brian you are one to talk, how many cruisers have you gone through? :flipoff2: If I remember right (which I probably don't) there were two lost to deer incidents, one part due to a blown motor and didn't you end up parting out your first 55 because the rust turned out to be terminal?

Close: one 40 to deer, sold one 40, cut up one 55 with a blown head gasket (rusty as #$%^!) The other two 55s I still own, including my first one. ;) https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=75455 In fact, come October, I'll have had my first 55 for ten years! :D

I know what you mean about a "new" car. My little beater truck turned 21 this year, and she's really starting to show it. Sometimes I wish I had a cheap little new car to compliment my Pig, but until then, I think an FJCruiser would be a decent compromise. It's no 55 though. :flipoff2:
