Little background.
I had a 1985 FJ-60 with beautifull body and interior I picked up last summer for $1500.00 ran great but was a little light on power even for a 2F....compression test readings weren't great, so...........replace, rebuild or.....swap. So I found a doner rustbucket and I mean RUSTbucket..HJ-60 with a great running 2H and H55f trans for $1200.00. So I swapped out EVERYTHING...(not an easy job)... to make a loooooooooooooong story short, I finished her up on Thursday last and....
Just regestered my hybred FJ/HJ-60. First I went to the smog station (Wa State)and the "tech" said that sounds like a diesel. "Stick this in your cig. lighter" and handed me a plug....I told him thats probably going to ruin your machine...she's 24v......"nevermind". I then was instructed th rev her up between the green lines........"OK"....here you go. He handed me my passed smog slip which says DIESEL ! Then to the D.O.L and there after paying for my years reg. $52.00 she hands me my tabs and reg. that says DIESEL !!!

Man am I :bounce:    :flipoff2: :grinpimp: :D :) :bounce2:

congratulations!

so how does it drive? Are you enjoying the clatter? I love diesels. The smell the feel to drive and all.....

The only thing better the smell of a Turbine engine(burning Jet A1) on a cold morning.....absolutely love that smell.

Drives geat....alot more power than most of the 2F's I have driven. Still have a couple gremlins....like slow and fast on Windshield wipers..intermitent works fine. and a couple other little things....runs like a top.

And as far as the jet A.....I get that to....I work for a major US airline

nice smell eh?

like apocolysp now, " I like the smell of napalm in the morning". For me, I like the smell of jet in the morning. :)

mmmm diesel engine or cutting torch does it for me.... cant say iv ever been that close to a jet engine though...

I'm not alone in the world :bounce: ....the smell of jet exhaust makes me happy all over....

Where I live (province of Ontario, Canada), emissions tests are required for a good part of the province (or maybe all of the province now, not sure). But, I just found out that I don't need an emissions test because my BJ60 is more than 20 years old. Too bad, really, I'd have been interested to see how it would have done had it really needed to pass an emissions test.

It's never had an emissions test before since it was always registered in Quebec, where emissions tests aren't needed (at least I never had to get one the whole time I lived there). Then again, I never owned a diesel before.

Anyone know how to get an emissions test for a diesel anyways? Just to satisfy my own curiosity... I've found, and heard from others, the older a (gasoline powered) vehicle, the harder it usually is to pass an emissions test. Not sure if the same is true for diesels.

Diesels pass with flying colours, all the Lower mainland guys have to do them, they report here when they do it. Generally say it wasn't a problem.

Only Southern Ontario has the test. Northern not yet, nor should it be. The North is hard on vehicles and the population is really low. So the enviro impact is very minimal.

Where as Toronto is smog crap hole that should have gotten enviro clean air standards 20 years ago.

But I blame the government for not finding a solution, there should have been good mass transit years ago. Keep all the people off the highway that are single occupant.

Ah just my pollutuion rant :) Remember do not idle excessively!

in2cruisers.... you still want the 24v headlight washer relay box? pm me

Sure...........sorry for not getting back to ya.................2yr old has got me running around

Ah yes, that's right. I thought the emissions test were only for certain parts of the province. Good to know that diesels usually pass easily in case the government ever changes the laws and requires older vehicles to be tested, or in case I move somwhere that an emission test would be needed.

Barrie is not that smog ridden yet, but everybody drives here. Public transit is not that great, and everything is so far apart. Vehicles here tend to get really high mileage - partly for having to drive all over Barrie, and partly for frequent trips to Toronto (150 to 200 kms round trip, and some people do it daily for going to work)! Lots of people are starting to get diesel Jettas and Golfs now. In the last year, several new and existing gas stations have started selling diesel, so that's a good sign that we're heading in the right direction.

I've been wanting a diesel for so long... finally got one! Can't think of a better vehicle to get it in either... I just love the looks of my BJ60!

:bounce:

ha ! wait until the turbo bug start on you .. :D

Hey Peter, I am just finalizing a deal on an '84 BJ60, also blue. Picking it up in TO, I live just outside of Kingston.

Any garage that would do your normal emissions testing for MTO would be able to do a test for you. Just tell them that you don't requrie it but you are interested if it would pass. I think usualyl it is around $45 for the test. However, most tests for diesels are just a visual test for smoke, i.e. pass/fail - they don't actually hook it up to the machine to check for PPM of crap. - AFAIK.

I'll post some pics when I get mine home!

Here in Vancouver they only measure opacity for diesels, basically how 'thick' the smoke is. My HJ didn't even register on the last emissions test, they had to check it 3 times, the final time with a supervisor to perform an override on the computer. It measured 0.01% with the maximum allowable of 30%.

Wow, that's pretty good! I can only imagine how good it would be on bio-diesel or straight veggie oil!

Sounds like a nice truck! Hope it's not mine being resold! :D It could be like the twin to mine! Next time I drive up to Montreal I can drop by and see you. Imagine people seeing two blue 84 BJ60's driving down the road! Would make a nice photo. Speaking of photos, if I miss your pics (ie: you don't see a reply from me in the thread), send me a PM. I'll watch for your pics in 60 forum and the diesel forum though.
