I would have to agree there. I respect those who buy LCs over the LX counterparts. The name, Landcruiser (not Land Cruiser) has great brand equity. The name is legendary.
What is the difference between 'LandCruiser' and 'Land Cruiser'?

Just a slight jab. I own a 40 and prior to 1991, they were titled "landcruiser" as one word in the manuals and brochures.
I know that my old Fj60 was also called "Landcruiser" as well. I think after the FJZ80, they started to seperate them out as two words in some parts of the globe.
It just an inside jab from a 40 owner. Just semantics now. Some call the FJ Cruiser a Land Cruiser.
The truth is, for probably 95% of the people even on this forum the LC is overkill in terms of their needs. That's OK for me though, in all honesty the LC really isn't built primarily for the US mkt. The "real" LC's are the bare bones versions sold everywhere but the US ! In the US the LC is more for image than substance, really. Like having a 911tt, do you really need a car with all of it's capabilities? You can't even approach them legaly on US roads. That though is a whole other topic of discussion !!

Why would you prefer the LX over the LC?
Also, speaking of 911's. A new Black with orange script GT3 RS pulled up beside me at the stop light this morning. Insane vehicle.
Speedmaster how are you liking your Range Rover Sport? I have looked at them more than once, and drove one and was impressed.
Now remember that I am a newbie, so maybe I am over looking things that others would care way more about, but my decision to purchase a LC had to do with what the vehicle could off the road then what it looks like sitting in a parking lot.
The other thing is that I purchased a Toyota because I KNOW that it is meant to go off road, and they have proven they can do it right! but I am smart enough to realize that they are not the only ones....just the ones doing it the longest![]()
Don't worry about it. Mudders like to give grief, but it stimulates good conversation and learning (usually).
I will say that if off-road ability was your primary concern, as it seems from the above comment, there may have been other more appropriate choices (and not all of them MY2008 vehicles). But that's just my opinion. Now, if you really meant "off-road ability plus extreme reliability plus plush ride plus family-friendly amenities plus modern safety features" then I think you may have made the right choice!
BTW, of currently existing auto manufacturers, Rover has been in the offroad game longer than Toyota, and Jeep has them both beat (as Willys Overland). And if you really want to get technical, Mercedes has built off-road vehicles longer than any other existing manufacturer. The full-time 4WD "Dernburg Wagen" was built in 1907, and even had four-wheel steer! Take that, W.E.ROCK competitors! In 1926 they built the first three-axle truck, the G1 (though it was still technically a 4x6, not a true 6x6 - that came with the G4 in 1934, which also had locking diffs and synchros in the gearbox!). And of course, the original U25 Unimog first saw the light of day in 1947, with portal axles, two locking diffs, and a fully synchro'd box.
I don't know why I know useless s#!t like this. My wife says I should go on Jeopardy sometime.
Right you are about the FJC. It most definitely fits its intended purpose as far as enthusiast are concerned.
It's a shame that we here in the USA cannot "build" a 200 in the way that "we" would like. Toyota is a company and its main goal is profitability. Period.

Quite frankly, if they had the 70 series here and priced around the price of a 4 runner or FJC, I would jump on that in a heartbeat.
consider yourself validated!!!
Sad as it may sound to the "purists," Toyota has to sell the thing new to someone who can afford to buy it. Since that excludes the Majoity of us(Sans DTT) they have to appease those buyers. Not us!
I will like most of you probable wait until it is three to five years old, buy it in great shape and then proceed to beat the s*** out of it. I will use any info from DTT and be thankful for his ability and desire to blaze the trail .
Ima buy you a beer!consider yourself validated!!!
I don't want to buy a vehicle that everyone loves right away. I want a vehicle that has to win people over. If I wanted looks I would buy a sports car and a penis enhancer( I know lots of guys who own Range Rovers) I will buy a vehicle that has performance and reliabililty as its main benefits. There is a reason why they brought back the FJ and it had little to do with styling. It was the go everywhere vehicle, and that is what made it Iconic, not the other way around. Idiots like me and my friends are taking those things to places we would have never seen had it not been for the FJ.
Buy the way. It is a Landcruiser, because Toyota put that badge on it. And Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and some smell better than others.
As Shotts pointed out( i know crazy, but he had point) anyone of us would be more than happy to Own one, especially if the payments were a little more "reasonable" to us.
