Yeah, I saw that. I'm 20.5" and sagged 1.5"= 22" Think about it, that's not my extended length. I need around 26".

You got me off my ass to measure my truck - at rest they're 19" long. I'm definitely not 3" low in the rear, could you have mis-measured? You measure between the center of the "eyes" at the end of the shock.

I double-checked with other shocks listed for the stock application:

Monroe 34803: 13.25" compressed, 21" extended (7.75" travel)
Rancho RS5118, RS9118: 13.96" compressed 22.82" extended (8.86" travel)

So I kinda doubt your shocks are 22" at rest. I'm talking about a 79+ here, you may have a different truck. However, it was easy to check for earlier trucks, like a 74, and most of the numbers were the same, with the addition of this shock from Monroe:

Monroe 31000: 12.00" compressed, 19.5" extended (7.5" travel)

Bottom line - the longest shock I can find in the usual manufacturers listings for 40's is 22.82" long. The shortest is 19.5". Maybe your front end has sprung upwards? You running a light SBC?

Eddy: I plan on doing exactly that. Taking a s*** is more work than changing the rear shocks, sometimes significantly so.

You're assuming that my truck is at stock height? I've got a 3" lift.

Ah, I guess I misread you saying it'd be hard to find shocks long enough as you saying it'd be hard for me to find shocks long enough.

An update:

I went with the Monroe 820's and love them. I put them at 75 psi when loaded with gear for my road trip and they kept me nice and level and rode great. At 20psi and unloaded the ride is just fine for my taste, I'm probably not going to take them off as they do help pick up my saggy rear end.

For $60 I couldn't be happier.

I have to second the helper springs that you can pick up at any auto store. They are easy to put on and take off. I even have them on my truck for a travel trailer and I leave them without tension unless I am towing and then I crank them down to pick my butt up a bit. Get some generic ones from AutoZOne checker or what ever and throw them on for the trip. IF you plan on wheeling empty, take them off for the day. WOuld take about 10 minutes per side.

what is wrong with you guys, wtf is so hard about airing the nipple in the bumper up and down?!?!

HEY you asked for opinions. I think we have all given what we thought to be advise that we have either thought of using or better yet, have used in the past. I do not like air bags that need to be filled with air. I have had one burst before. So now I prefer strictly mechanical. It is easy to adjust and I don’t have to add one more thing that requires constant messing with to get it just right. Helper springs are a simple one time crank and ready to go.

So chill if you want people to give their thoughts or next time it be
:ban:

i was kiddin buddy, sarcasm and the internet don't really work, i guess. as you say, "chill"...
