Temperature sending unit humor (1 Viewer)

i had to share this moment. I went to change the temperature sending unit on my truck. Being toughtful and very thorough I made sure I put a bunch of thread tape on the sending unit threads before I put the unit in so that it would seal properly. Funny enough when I ran the truck it still didn't work.

I thought about it a little more and realized the unit registers by letting voltage through to the engine. Seems thread tape doesn't conduct. Time for a redo!

Just glad I didn't return the sender...

The factory temp sender and mount do not rely on the threads to seal. There is a tapered seat next to the threads. The unit and mount have straight 16mm threads. It is not setup for a temp sender with pipe threads and the need for sealant, tape or otherwise. Like posted above, you need a clean ground path for the unit to work properly.

Sorry to jump into this thread - but I recall there was a "short" and "long" version of this. I have a 2F from a 75 - anyone have the part number I need? Thanks, and sorry to hijack,
