Where are you located and what was the ambient temp. while you were setting in traffic? ..............1978HJ45

My temps. based on A/C (on) with ambient temps. in the 34 + degree (C) range will average approximately 190 to 200 degrees (F) at idle and increase to 210 to 215 at road speed.
With A/C (off) the temps seldom go above 195 degrees (F).
Hope that helps .....1978HJ75

Thanks! What would be the position of the needle on the temp gauge?

I replaced the factory gauge with a high quality aftermarket gauge some time ago. ( I suggest you do the same thing)
My factory gauge would read all over the place ( even after changing the sending unit) while the aftermarket version is rock steady. ...............1978HJ45

i have a similar query, when in city driving with traffic and AC on my temperature needle goes 60% and the same without AC all day remains at 10%, highway cruising with AC is also 10-15% on the stock needle. During city driving i also notice it throws out boiling coolant, but does not take it back in hence needs a refill of about 500ml on the coolant tank everytime it overflows, i guess my radiator needs replacement being 25 yrs old!

Again I would highly suggest a good quality aftermarket water temp. gauge. By the time the factory gauge indicates a problem you may be hitchhiking back home. .............1978HJ45

If its overheats, then it could be down to overfilling the AC, but also check the adjuster puller for the belt.
Check if it spins freely :), if its anything like mine i just took off, you will need a new bearing, its been extremly hot at some point :hhmm:
