Temp sending unit issue (1 Viewer)

I just replaced my temp sending unit to try and get it to read on my gauge. I have a 74 but the engine is from a later year (not sure what year yet still scrubbing that plate on the engine). Should I be using the longer temp sensor or is the one pictured the right one?

There are also two wires but I know that’s for the emissions and I tested both.

You need the original year temp sender to work with your 74 gauge.
This is the sender that works with my 74...

The look pretty similar, I am just using the further back port. maybe I will try hitting that connector with wire wool to make sure there is a good connection.

Does the wire go directly to the gauge? I could just run a new one in that case to se if it works.

I think I saw those chrome one he has. Might try that if cleaning them doesn’t work
