I have read a few threads on this topic and I tried the easy stuff already. Changed the temp sender on the block (near the oil filter) but to no avail.

So the temp gauge usually starts out low, and then pegs high within 30 seconds. if you hit a bump hard enough it will bounce down and peg out again. Is the gauge messed up? Did I get a bad sender? any ideas?

Do you have an OBDII reader so you can verify the actual temperature?
Because, "hit a bump hard enough it will bounce down and peg out again", I would look at chaffed wires where they come through the firewall and any place else the harness passes.

I just bought another one as my cheap one doesn't give me any readouts just codes. Chaffed wires is what I am afraid of.
