I would like to propose a sticky thread created by Woody or what ever moderator for that specific tech section to be placed outlining some, for the lack of a better term, "Posting Etiquette." I have been on many other forums and this seems to be like a staple for all of them. I cannot speak for the other tech sections but it seems in the 80's Tech we get alot of Newbies that just start posting away.

I KNOW part of this was covered in a thread in the 80 section about handleing topics that have already been covered. This sticky would be the PERFECT area to add about please search for your answer before posting the same question for the 100000 time.

A little more that could be said about posting etiquette..."some people" post things that they think of as they read the thread...which is fine to a point. The problem I am having are with "some people" who, if you look have 8 of the 10 replies to a certain thread. And none of which contain any pertinent TECH information. The best is when you look at the time for the posts...they are like 2 min apart!!! back to back to back by ONE PERSON!

I read hundreds of posts to every post I actually make. I also lurked a long time before posting anything, mainly out of respect. Which I know not everyone has....

I just think it would be nice to have a thread entitled...whatever...that would draw Newbie's to and outline some SIMPLE expectation...ie. Don't post every little stupid thought that pops into your brain as your are reading a thread....only pertinent TECH information. If you like posting everything that pops into your head...go to Chit Chat...or buy a Jeep :D!

Anyone?

great idea...now, get those same people to actually READ a thread that covers such information...

never gonna happen, we both know it.

There is information noted when you register for the forum...no one reads that...the FAQ's at the top of most forums answer a lot of questions...no one reads those...there are announcement threads regarding SilverStars, yet a lot of people ask how those work and how to get them.

Those who are familiar with forums are never the issue....the handful who are not are untrainable.

This would be excellent material to include at the beginning of each FAQ, but it will be ignored....

I will request that all FAQ's be renamed "FAQ and Newbie Guide" however...that may help a bit....or just be ignored...lol

newbie bashing is the only thing that works... sometimes :D :flipoff2:

seriously, I agree with woody, and would like to outline the very essence of a forum is discussing, not building an archive ;)

I think bashing is the only thing that works :D Partly why I put this here cause I know the people that it pisses off won't find it! haha...

Changing the name of the FAQ is a great idea! I know not everyone reads it...BUT...if a sentence or two helped one person...I think it would be worth it... :tear: :D

Sorry I was really fed up this morning when I wrote this...

now, to work on some "standard" newbie guide text....perhaps just do it as a link at the top of each FAQ section....

hhhmmmmmm

I don't think that particular individual gets it. Just gonna have to keep kicking him if you know what I mean. :flipoff2:

Would starting a entire thread to bash one idiot be overkill? :D In chat of course!!

Woody...here is another forum I frequient for my :princess: 's car...some good info in their sticky's.

Just examples but they run a VERY tight ship...no bumping or foul language I am sure they would hate out flipoff man...

Don't know about multiple sticky's either...too many and no one will EVER read them...

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!

I want to watch!

I think your signature line should be part of the Newbie guide...beware or we WILL unhook your keyboard...:D

It would be ideal if every forum with the exception of 'chat' had the following feature :

A 'chat' button , which when pressed , would reveal any 'comments' made to the thread by users that were not tech in nature .

A hack for this would include a two seperate 'submit' buttons . Using the regular text areas to write a reply , a user could then choose whether to 'submit' it as 'chat' or 'tech' ..

If a user had 'chat' off , they would never even see the superfluous comments ... but if they wanted to add a more robust , flavorful level to the tech , they would opt to turn 'chat' on .

Muse ...

TY

But then it still comes down to the 'tards using the correct submit button...:D

how about we have the forum rules stickied at the top of each section, with a title such as "free porn"

or "win woodies FJ40"

everyone clicks those,

have the terms and conditions, such as no chat posts in tech etc,

last term and condition

"clicking on this thread makes you inelegible for this offer"

The fertalizer is about to hit the ventilators in 80's tech...

Hurry everybody come watch! :D

does that let me not see his posts?

Sweeet :d
