$ 2100.00 What would you do? h55 and clutch with transfer rebuild? or 33x10.5 , aussie rear and 4.11's? or arbs front and rear? or a kimber 1911? What do you think ?

What shape is your powerplant in?

evaluate how you use it. highway driving mostly? there's your H-55, weekend trails and not your DD? tires and locker... you get the idea. have fun and do what feels like it'll have the best impact on your usage...

rear locker (aussie, lockright, quicklock or similiar), trailgear sliders, OME basic suspension, and about $600 of whatever else you want to go splurge on...

buy welder, bender and a few other parts and pieces, and some metal of cource, sliders, bumpers, roof rack, oh and the damn spacers i need to get the tires on there. or take it to mudrak and have the gears put in and do the runner break up grade, but i already have the H55 so.......

H55 needs gears

I think a 5-speed will be of no use without lower gears than 3.70s. So, they go hand in hand. Like the man said, evaluate your use of the cruiser...off road, daily driver, highway use, etc and then go in the most sensible direction. OME suspensions are a good choice in regard to ride. Make certain you have the basics first (motor, brakes, front end, tires, etc before going for the bling.)

This truck goes everywhere. 200 mile drives on pavement, low range crawls up mining roads, everything in between. The speed limit is 70 on highways and 75 on the interstate. I will put 33x10.5's on when the current 235/75/15s wear out. Plenty of room after the aals.

How would a h55 not help without gears? The lower 1st gear gives better crawl, and the overdrive makes it possible to cruise at 75. From all I have heard/read, this is the best upgrade you could possibly do with an otherwise stock rig.

Arb's with compressor, 4.11s, and brand new 33s would drive on the pavement just the same as now, only get up the trails much better. The choice between the two is driving me crazy. More opinions please. Thanks,

Jason

lock it up..

This is beginning to sound familiar. Ha Ha Ha!
By the way, thanks for the advice to cool it in the sua setup thread. Some times being a smart-ass on the computer comes across as just being an ass.

Thanks for the vote for lockers. Keep em coming,

Jason

I was assuming that you had stock 3.70 gears in yours. If you put 33s on it with 3.70 gears you will love it on the interstate UNTIL you hit a long incline. Then you will be dogging along in 3rd gear going 45 with your flashers on. Believe me! If you add a H55 to that situation, which has an even higher high gear, I doubt that you would be able to use 5th gear much except going downhill.
However, from what I can tell, if you have a 5-speed, 33 inch tires, and 4.11 gears life would be good.

I'd say Five speed.

If it were me, i'd probably be doing the Engine, but you're already set there.

My Philosophy is to alway get the Core of you rig where you want it before adding any frivilous stuff.

Well..... I vote H55F, re: solid tranny for future/progressive build, plus the 5th gear with stock or 31" tires seems to work well. If you can swing it, 250$ for the aussie in the rear and go, go, go...

Lol... I'd forgotten about that. I say lock it up because doing so will flat out take you farther than any other mod will. Combine that with some gears and you have a great foundation to build on. I know everyone likes the H55 idea and I get it but since you have something that works now I would stick with it and spend your money where it'll count the most. When you are done with things that'll really improve offroad capabilities go back and get the H55 and other creature comforts if its still something that you have to have. To me, things like H55, lights, racks, yada, yada dont really help when you are on the trail.

What you need to do is like all the rest of us Americans do. You spend your refund twice!

Or, you spend next year's refund this year. That is planning ahead!

With this kind of financial planning, I would put in the H55F and ARBs/regear the axles!

My clutch or transmission may fail any time so I would pick the H55F first.

The 33's and 4.11's would come as a pair, so I would run 31's when my 235's wear out if I could not afford the ARBs. OTOH, you could cut straight to 33's and put FJ62 4.11 thirds in to give you some time to save for the locker of your dreams.
