I need to know the taper of the 80 series tie rod end, the reamer that i have is for the standard 1-ton stuff, (tapers 1.5" per foot- 7 degrees).

My 40 is getting an 80 series pitman arm and draglink hence the question...

Thanks

Dunno how one would measure that but I have new ends at work that I can look at for you tomorrow.

Bailey,

I did some crude measurements off an aftermarket one I have:

small diameter = 0.575"
large diamter = 0.625"
distance between two measurements ~1/2"

That's enough to calculate whatever you need.

Disclaimer: Ballpark only, distance was measured w/ a machinist's scale, diameters with a caliper.

Dan, Machinery's Handbook has the procedures for accurately measuring them. It's tool and die maker or machine shop inspector stuff.

So 4 degrees. Thanks.

Next question is where to find the appropriate reamer- seems they are listed by dimensions and not in per ft or degrees like I need.

thanks for the site, Mike.

unfortunatly they list the same way, small dia-large dia and length of flute. It's just simple trig but gets tedious quickly.

Cruisin - the fastest way is to just call Luke Porter @ 4x4Labs or Marlin or All-Pro and ask them what they use. All of them do modified steering setups for the Toyotas to upgrade to the 80-series tie rod ends. They'll be able to give you a part number for the right reamer most likely and a source for it...
