Tailgate incrediblely hard to open/close (1 Viewer)

Recently replaced the damaged tailgate in my 62 with a used one. It now requires much more force to open or close. Anything I can do?

Did you grease/oil the hinges? That's about the only thing you can do if everything is lined up correctly.

No, I did not apply any grease in the hinges when I installed it. It moves easily once its free. Hopefully that makes sense.

Probably binding. Check that hinges are adjusted/aligned.

Hi luker,

As Mike S said check the hinges are adjusted/aligned. Also I would check that the striker plate is aligned. Also check if it is worn or loose.

Check if the handle or catch rods are bent that would make it hard to open and close.

If the side supports are corroded, they can cause a lot of binding. More than you would think.
