I started this project back in 2004! I took apart the interior to look for a place to mount my amps. Redid all speakers with kenwood echelons. Amps were physically much bigger back then so I didn't have many choices. I could cut the floor and make a fake floor where the spare tire is located but didn't want to relocate the spare. The other easier option was to cut out the tailgate. I made a 'temporary' rack out of wood.
This picture was taken 2 weeks ago with newer smaller amps (went through a couple of amps in the past 14yr). Yep, this wood was used for the past 14yrs!!
After finally getting to this I redid the amp rack last weekend:
Still not complete, but at least I'm ready to make some coverings
