Maybe it should be in another post area. If so….
Over to long a period I acquired a somewhat rusted tailgate and two lowers of a gate, with a little rust also. The bottoms of the three pieces are rusted out and I am not good enough to work that kind of magic. So my idea is to remove the inside panels of the three, flip the two barn doors, cut them up, attach them to the cut up inside panel of the tailgate and have a working something. 😳
Probably will not be a working tailgate. More likely just a bolt on, if I ever get the 40 out of the garage and go topless.

This shows the panel removed from the tailgate and the two donor backs.
I am also learning about the process of removing the small amount of rust under the panels. I will be doing the electric water dip process.
Anyway starting a post of the very slow process. My splatter (welding) skills are limited.
After removing the inner skin, the pieces look like Swiss cheese.

I made a tailgate out of 2 door with my dad. You can see in this picture my bottoms were rusty on the inside. I used the tops of the insides for the corners at the bottom in the end and bent straight sections to fit.

New bottom piece to cross the with and fix some of the issues with the bottoms. Used narrow filler between to fill the gap.

Hard to see corners, but I can't find my other picture. Had enough of the corners to make work. Laid a sheet to fill in the middle and plug welded it and ground smooth. I also recrimped the top hem too. Laid in bar with threads for hinges across the bottom and for the tailgate latches and license plate mount.
I had pieces sandblasted so I had clean metal to work with.

Great work. That may be the plan for the barn doors after the tailgate is done.

What are these two bolt holes used for on this tailgate? Marked with the blue tape.
Thanks

They seem low on the tailgate. There is a bracket right above the holes I figured for the light and license plate. Just not sure.
Pictures anyone?

I borrowed this picture but believe it will fill the gaps for you.

The light mounts off the top bracket and the lower plate mounts to the two bolts you have pointed out.
