Tail light housing gaskets (1 Viewer)

On 62s (I assume 60s also) there are two gaskets stacked on the tail light housings and lenses. The inner gasket (the thin foam-like one) on both my tail lights is all torn up and tattered. The outer, rubber gasket is still in good shape, but the inner is shot. It's also NLA everywhere I've looked. Is it really necessary, or have people just been removing them with no ill effects?

Oh well hey now. The foam gasket is what's shot on mine. But new complete gaskets would be nice....

I've used the closed cell foam sheets that are available at craft stores to cut out gaskets for lenses like this. They come in a variety of colors and work well.
