I noticed the other day while driving home that my tach needle was jumping all over the place. Was cruising at 65mph at about 2200 RPM. The needle was was jumping up or down between 100 and 500 RPMs from 2200 RPM. It was cold and raining at the time not sure if that makes a difference. Any ideas?

Thanks

There was no change in the motor just the needle. Lose wire?

Mine does this on occasion I was thinking it was the ground wire? Anybody know were that is?

Mine also seems to stick from time to time, usually when at idle. The engine is idling smoothly but the tach needle jumps from 250 to 650 and back. Seems to only happen when the weather is cold.

Mine does that, too... I think it's just old age. :meh:

I guess the consensus is old age and cold weather! My 80 falls into both categories. I am not really to concerned about it the motor still runs fine.
