I just committed to buying a FZJ80 imported from Dubai. While there, it had a 1FZ Coil-Pack Ignition motor installed that came out of a FZJ105. I'm told the Tachometer never worked while it's been in the USA. What I've researched and read is on the regular FZJ80 models the Tachometer receives engine speed from what is referred to as the Igniter, but the person who imported the vehicle believes on this vehicle it comes from the ECU?
I'll be flying out in a couple weeks to get the vehicle, and drive it home to Colorado. In a perfect world, I'd love to get the Tachometer working before the trip home, but I'm guessing It'll have to wait for my return home where I'll need more time to troubleshoot the problem.
If anyone has knowledge or insight to how the motor interfaces with the tachometer, I'd appreciate the help.
Oh, and yes, 5-speed manual, part time 4X4, ambulance doors in back, 2nd fuel tank (subtank), and no roof rack or sunroof. Unfortunately not triple locked.
