??? my tach only works when it wants too most of the time it just reads 2500 rpms even when its turned off.every blue moon i look down and its moving a lil bit but its prob not right anyway....any ideas would be great on the subject .. thanks

I installed a new one not too long ago in mine, fj40 350sbc. IIRC, one wire (green) goes to the distributor's "Tach" terminal. Another wire went to an ignition wire, one is a ground, and one is for the background light. Try checking all your connections. My .02

Lowtide...: I have an 87 FJ60 and my tack will go goofy and not work for a day, but this is very infrequent in my case. Other than this it works great. If you're like me and watch the tach just as much, if not more than, the speedo this becomes a real PITA. I would suggest checking out this link in the "technical links" section
