Whats up... hey i just picked up a 73 fj40, looking to do some serious mods, 350-700r4, but clueless on t/c... dont want the whine of my stock t/c... also going 4" lift 35' BFG's... helllppp!

Welcome.

Orion or Toyota split case...

You could go with a Toyota split case from an 1981 to 1987 40 or 60 series...you are going to need an adapter for this or an Orion. The Orion will get you a 4:1 low, which you probably will not need with a 700r, unless you are looking to get into some really tough trails....and even then, with 35", you probably will not need it, with the 3:1 first in the auto...

Good luck!

thanks but..

thanks steve... but what is an orion... and what about the whine of the later model... and is there any sense in dana 300...

You certianly could go with a Dana 300, but you will need to build a new rear axle, as the 300's output is centered opposed to the offset output in the Toyota cases...

The Orion is a cast iron case made by Advance Adapters, that has a 4:1 low range gear set and supposedly is going to have a 3:1 gear set available for it in the next year. It is designed to be a direct replacement for the older one-piece tcase.

If you are going to build a new rear axle, then just make it a high pinion, and go Atlas!

Good luck!
