( I posted this in the 70 Series Tech Section but I assume this section is more appropriate )
What is the common wisdom when it comes to oil change intervals ( mileage or kilometers ...2H diesel ) when using synthetic oil? ( Amsoil )
Thanks.......

when it gets dirty

I love Canadian humor....... but shouldn't it be ....."when it gets dirty eh"
I am starting to wonder if you are really Canadian.
Just for argument sake, it is dirty before you get home from the oil change.

eh? can't hear you over the rattle ...

seriously though, test the oil every 5000K. you are driving an old engine and if the bearings or rings start going and you drive the 10K/15K/20K that some guys are recommending the damage could be bad.

just sayin ...

a gasser where you have no soot content can probably handle the increase of oil changes. my wife's Yaris oil was changed at 10K just for s***s and giggles and it was just starting to turn dark, that was dino oil.
back to the 5K oil changes for it.

The reason I changed the type of oil was not necessarily to increase the intervals between changes as much as it was to see if the oil consumption would go down.
While I ran Dello 15W40 the oil consumption was a tad high ( not alarmingly high but higher than I thought was normal ) so I am basically trying the 20W50 to see if it makes a difference.
My grandfather and dad always told me that oil was cheaper than an engine so I never push my luck.:)

i have yet to ever see syth reduce oil consumption, usually it is the opposite that occures as well as new leaks that were never there before ...

Time will tell ...... I have a long history of learning things the hard way which is evidenced by the fact that I have owned numerous British vehicles.:)

Yep, I tried synth on winter and all of a sudden I started loosing/leaking oil. Went back to dino with an early oil change and no probs. During the warm months, I will often use Castro Tection 15W40. The oil pressure doesn't drop so much at idle as compared to other dino oils of the same grade.
