This unrelated to the 70 series cruiser as the vehicle in question is a 1991 Toyota Soarer, but I know there is a lot of 2L-TE motors with craked heads and gaskets, so someone should be able to answer my questions.

The car had been leaking coolant for the last week and hadn't been used much, was going to get underneath is and see what the problem was but hadn't the time. So yesterday I left it idling after a short trip and came outside to see white smoke billowing out the tailpipe reved it a little and more came out, so shut it off. Tried it again this morning and same problem, I didn't notice any bubles or appearance of water in the oil so I think its just the head gasket.

What do you guys think and what damage could result from it being ran any further, note it hasn't overheated yet.

You wont know until the head is off but it is obvious something is allowing coolant to leak into the combustion chamber.

IMO it is best not driven otherwise it may get worse.By worse I mean cracking or warping the head and allowing coolant and oil to mix.

The fact that the gauge shows it is not overheating maybe due to the temp sensor being away from the problem area

thanks rosco, its parked for now, I guess a head gasket from Japan is like $150 canadian so not too bad, and shouldn't be too hard of a fix just a pile of hours

i can almost guarrantee a cracked head as well... they are prone to the same problems as the 2LTE
