Background:
I just wired up the CB antenna on my 4Runner. I located the antenna on my front bumper, Aussie style. I used all Firestik components- drilled a hole in my floor board and used a rubber grommet. The cable in the kit required some soldering to complete the installation. I plan to install a CB antenna on my '96 FZJ80 in the next few days.
Questions:
Does anyone have an SWR meter and the time to help me tune my antenna(s)? The meters seem to be about $20 on Amazon. Is a meter useful after the initial tuning? Do you recommend buying my own meter?
More Questions:
I remember there was a group buy for some short rubber CB antennas for several LC80's last winter?. Does anyone know the brand? Are they working out? How did you route the coax? I understand that mounting the antenna in the center of the vehicle will optimize signal strength in all directions, but I don't want to run coax through my window/sunroof. Your advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
-JJG.

The short antennas are made by ProComm. I forget the model number, but it's called a rubber ducky. They work really well. Running the coax without going thru an existing opening would complicated. I've never had an issue with running it thru the door and pinching the cable.

I have an SWR meter.
It's packed somewhere still.
If you'll be at the meeting and can wait that long and send me a PM a few days ahead, I can bring it with.

Sent from my SGH-T959 using IH8MUD

Thanks! "Rubber Duck" Group buy??

Thanks for the offers of help! PMs sent.

Also, thanks for the information. Looks like $30 for a rubber duck from Amazon.
$13.94 + $12.85 shipping from e-bay

Anyone want one of these antennas? We can probably get a better shipping rate on multiple.

Thanks again!

I thought it was free freight on orders over $25, so just buy two of them. Somebody will need one someday.............

I would take one antenna. I have an swr meter you could borrow anytime, but no time or experience to help, it does come with instructions. I'm near Cave Creek and Greenway Roads if you'd like to come get it.

Might want to start a new thread for a group buy. If you can get to the 4+ range, you should be able to get the shipping down to $3-4 per.

I've never needed to tune an antenna.:meh: You might want to try it out before dicking with it.:hmm:
