I know that I have seen several OEM switches wired for other things with new labels affixed. I have some ideas for this myself but am wondering what others have used to re-label the switches to maintain that OEM look. CDan had a nice description in his subtank writeup but I couldn't locate the thread with the search.

I would really like the new labels to be visible with the switch backlighting at night. Are you all removing the exisitng labels or just covering up?

What sort of paper and adhesive/covering are you using for the new labels?

Also to save time wiring up the switch illumination for several switches it would be ideal to setup a junction box for access into the illumination circuit (two green wires). Has anyone done this? If so ...please explain.

Cheers

I used "word" and, with the help of my wife, made a "negitive" label where I got white letters with a black background. I then played with the font size to get the the letters to the size I wanted. I then printed them on mailing label stock. Next step is to cut the label to the size you want and peel the back off and stick it to the switch. Since water will ruin this type of label I then overlayed it with some clear plastic tape of the type used to protect body panels from chips.

If you are overlaying on a backlit switch the light will show thru the letters albeit a bit dimmer perhaps. What I did on a couple of my conversions was carefully scrape away the original icon to expose more of the backlight and to get rid of the "ghosting" from the original icon before applying the overlay.
