okay. so i did a search for suspension and got to read quite a bit about the parabolics. my suspension is pretty much toast, and i'm getting ready to drop the hammer onnew stuff. got a line on a good deal on ome, but before i do this, does anybody have input that could sway me?
has any body ever run the ome, then changed to parabolic, or some such configuration? i've got ome greasable shackles, 33's and everything else is pretyy much stock. rancho's, but they are beat to death. what kind of life expectancy should there be on new springs?
any thoughts very much appreciated, and i apologize if this has been discussed. when i did a search, i didn't see anything. thanks,
-justin

edit: this is for the 60, just so there's no confusion.

I have had OME on for the last 5 years. They still are working well, but these parabolics have got me thinking. I am seriously considering switching to the parabolics, but I, like many people here, are still waiting for some field results to come in.

I can only compare the stock vs OME suspension, so I can't comment on some of the other brands. I am satisfied with OME, but would like to try the parabolics before I would buy the OMEs again.

how much better did you find the ome to be over the stock? i want good on and off roads capabilities, and everybody seems to lean heavy to ome, but i thought i'd see if anybody had done any of this type of comparison. this truck is my dd, but i do not shy away from wheeling some good stuff. i ain't hangin' with the trailer queens, but i do wheel harder than most with mostly stock configuration. only difference is 33's.

I have 33's on my 62 with OME Dakars. Compared to stock I'll give you the following:

1-Good road manners. Handeling is fine, still pretty flat with some lean at higher speed. Smooth ride over rough curffaces and speed bumps.

2- Plenty of clearance for my 33;s (hell! stock had clearance for 33's:rolleyes: . I need 35's now:lol: .

3-No lean (so far) and I've had thm on over a month and and couple thousand miles.

4-Off road (limited amount I've been able to do:( ), the articulation seems fine, again they are stable.

5-Load bearing? Great!!!:) Loaded my son's Grand national engine in the rear section and it still sat just a tad high in the back;).
If anything, I kind of wish it sat more level in the rear.

Gave a great ride loaded. Very smooth!

I was discussing the arse end high issue a buddy of mine who runs a local 4WP store. He suggested we use an AAL in the front when the wench goes in, and those ride adjusting springs in the rear that I mentioned above. This should level out the truck (asthetically), maintain the smooth street manners, and keep the rear from sagging when loaded so we don't end up in a lights high mode under load. When not loaded they won't mess with the ride height or firmness.

And there's no bag to break, no lines to pinch and no chance you'll suddenly loose air pressure and end up on top of your tires...or worse.

Finally, I know Land Rover uses an OBA system, but I've seen and heard some real horror stories about them malfunctioning at the worst times.

codered, thanks for that. i suspect i'm going this way, and i just wanted to get a lowdown from some folks that had done it already.
the main thing i wondered was about tire size, as i just don't want to spend the change on bigger shoes. this sounds like it mayjust be perfect, and may last a long time. thanks for your thoughts, much appreciated.

OME from Kurt

Cruiser Outfitters

OME, full set up. You won't look back. Some 33's, and you'll be off to about anywhere, 'cept maybe where some of them crazy jacked up jeeps go! :D

parabolics

Toyota Owners magazine has an aritcle on parabolics coming out in the may-june issue.

phoenixrider,
wish my rig was still all nice body panels like yours. unfortunately, i've tried going some of those crazy place, and made it, but not without a little rearranging!!
you find that your articulation is better?
i've actually ordered the dakars, and since i'm completely insane, front and rear arbs, too. well, so much for keeping the body damage to a minimum.:whoops:
keep on posting up your thoughts, maybe we can help some other soul along in the quest for a better, plusher feeling ride!!
