I put in a supercharger this weekend. Wow, what a difference. These rigs should've all come like this from the factory.

Unfortunately I broke a nipple off the radiator for the #3 bypass line when I was torquing the 32mm crank bolt back on, so I have to put in a new radiator. In the meantime I put it all back together and am running it with a temporary fix (made a new nipple from a section of one of the steel lines that was removed, drilled out the hole and used a QuickSteel to reinforce the repair - kinda' agricultural, but it works).

But here is the real question - I had a really hard time figuring out how to install the fan shroud/fan combo - as in I can't figure out how to get it all in there. I tried every combination I could think of and there just doesn't seem to be enough space to get it all in. I'm running without a shroud a the moment.

Does anyone have tricks or tips that they can share. I'll be going back in to replace the radiator tomorrow night, so any advice you can offer would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Charlie

You have to remove/install the fan/clutch/fan shroud as a group. You unbolt the shroud and the clutch from the water pump hub and then lift everything out togther.

Thanks, Dan! I didn't try that, I did try inserting the fan and shroud together, but I did not try it with the clutch attached to the fan. Thanks!

additionally,
make sure the bottom of the shroud slides into the tabs on both sides. you may have to move some powersteering/trans cooler lines out of the way with one hand as you slide in the shroud.

It should be a tight fit and the shroud should not jiggle or have any play.

sounds like a good fix for the radiator. I would leave it if your radiator is otherwise in good shape.

Furthermore, I found that if I trimmed the DS tab it went in like a breeze. Of course this was on like the 10th time I've done this.

I cut the edge of the tab nearest the DS thus allowing the tab to slide into the slot horizontall as opposed to having to get it in there vertically. This made it much easier for me with the battery box and other items that were in my way on the DS.

Thanks

Thanks everyone. I'll report back how it goes.

FirstToy - The fix seems good, but I don't want to take any chances with the reports of supercharger cooling issues. A new radiator can't hurt, and I'll keep the original on the shelf as a spare. That QuickSteel is great stuff, kind of like jb weld on steroids - and the cure time is fast. I'm going to keep some in the cruiser for emergency repairs from now on.

Dan,

You're awesome! That worked perfectly on the first try. Thank you!!!!

One thing I did for peace of mind, that seemed like a decent idea, was to put a piece of cardboard over the radiator fins to help avoid damage. With that small amount of space I figured it would be worthwhile to provide a buffer between the fan blades/hub and the radiator. It was easy to take out once the hub was bolted to the water pump before I bolted the shroud to the radiator.

Thanks!!!

Charlie
