Does anyone know the difference between the generations of the TRD supercharger kit? It looks like the newer version has a different blower and the hole that mounts to the plenum is a different shape. Are the plenums differently shaped too? Could the newer blower be used with the older plenum?

I have noticed a few cosmetic differences between rigs, but I never noticed this. Pics would help. John

I found the answer. The square hole version is a gen 3 Eaton. The newer one is a gen 4. They are not compatible.

Pics for clarity. First one is generation 3. Second one is generation 4. I assume the plenum included with the kit must be different depending on the generation.

It looks like the bolt pattern might be the same, so perhaps some sort of adapter could be made if necessary.

An adapter would move it up the height of the adapter, causing potential hood clearance issues, and belt length might need to be longer if it's more than the tensioner can accomodate, so sourcing a proper belt could be a problem as well. Just some things to watch out for.

Supercharger is on it's side so it would only move over not up. Belt length may be an issue. The snout of the new one is longer too so the adapter would need to move it back. Probably buying a new kit is the only answer. I bet the throttle body adapter is different too.

Here's some pics of the older style plenum and throttle body. Can someone with the new style plenum and throttle body post up some pics please? It would be nice to see how close they are in case some sort of simple adaptation is possible.

Back of the 4th generation supercharger (which is called an MP90 by Eaton). There doesn't appear to be anything significantly different here. Perhaps the throttle body adapter is the same between the old and new kit. If that's the case, then adapting the newer supercharger to the older kit would just require adapting it to the plenum so that the pulley winds up in the right spot and it is sealed.

I can measure when I get home

You can not fit an old adapter to the back of the new blower. I found this out the hard way.

I was told by my TMS connection that you basically need to start all over.

If a guy has a first gen blower and it grenades, he gets to buy a whole kit to make a current gen blower work.

Besides the physical differences, is there any change in output? HP expectations for each?

No published performance changes.

They would have had to start all over with CARB (no way would they go to that effort) to change it.

We are lucky they even bothered to make a new run.

this is the crank pulley?

Blower pulley. I do not know the crank pully dia off hand.

I mis-read your question. Time to polish the bi-focals.

Agreed!

I wasn't aware of these differences until I bought a used kit and looked into a rebuild  Hopefully my case is still in good condition!

It does look like the 3rd generation MP90 was used with different snouts on a bunch of other vehicles. There's a bunch of reman units available on ebay for Ford Thunderbirds. They look identical besides the snout, but maybe there are some differences I can't see from the pictures.
