Has anyone out there went from a supercharged 80 series to a 100 series? I'm just curious what the power difference/driving difference is for that scenario.

I think you will be fine. What's the torque on the 80 right now? 100 stock pushes right about 240hp/320tq. She can get up and go.

'03+ mo betta in that department.

The 80 stock is 212 hp and 275 ft-lb torque. Seems to me that Christo said once you gain around 100hp and 100 ft-lb of torque with a supercharger. That would make it pretty peppy. I'm driving a Denali now, and would have a hard time going back to a slug. So, if I trade it, I'm trying to decided whether to go with an 80 and supercharge it or a 100.

I've had 2 80's and loved them, but I've never even ridden in a 100.

I did. The SC has more off the line oomph and passing acceleration, but the V8 is better on the hills and towing. The 8 is also better on fuel economy.

You gain about 80hp with the SC.

Figure you can pick up a locked 80 for ~$6-8k and then the SC is another $3k on top of that. You may have to do some PM on the 80 in order for it to be ready for the SC (headgasket and cooling system overhaul), so that could add to the costs.

Depends on your intended use. The SC is fun, but ultimately the LC isn't a sports car and having 7psi of boost off-road isn't much use.

The power difference is not that big IMO. The big difference for me was heat...AZ is not a good place for a SC on anything. Also 80's AC is not the greatest then add a SC it's really no good. Again mostly an AZ thing not sure you would have the same issues in Il.

Test drive a 100, I think that will settle it for you pretty quickly.

What he said x2

I left home to buy an 80, test drove a 100 and stopped looking for 80's.

The 100 is a completely different animal.

No comparision! Walt and myself have done many experiments. He has an 80 with the S/C. We have the same equipment and same tire size.

Before he went to 4.88 gears the comparison was fair. Both our trucks had 35's and both had stock gearing. Off the line and especially after 20MPH it was all the 100. Not even close. Plus the 80 roars loud, is rough while the 100 is silky smooth and quiet.

Then...Walt added 4.88's. Now he had a 6% gearing advantage over stock and I still was at the 12% disadvantage with the stock gears. From 0-20 he tore off the line (GEARING!), from 20-60 we were even. Above 60 I pull away. IF I had the 4.88's like some on-line have, I'd a KILLED him.

One note...the bottom torque is not there on the 80 either (despite his 4.88). When we hit the trail we had a steep climp off the main road to the trailhead. The 100 took some gas in 4-HI to make the climb but up it went and easily. His 80 couldn't do it. He had to shift into 4-LO to make it.

If I was Walt I would have his 80 look at.

Or maybe my 100 is extra fast!

I've driven many 100's. For some reason mine (even with 295's) still pulls better than all the other ones. and it sounds alot better :D
