When it comes to mechanical knowledge, I need a lot of help getting to where everybody else here seems to have started . Don't get me wrong, the suggestions I have read on the forums are really helpful, but I am starting from zero. Is there an easy to understand repair book that you would recommend that would help get me up to speed?

Dennis,

I usually recommend this free web site for beginners and experienced DIY guys. It has a section with technical articles that are specific to Toyotas and the site was designed to bring a novice up to speed.

Thanks, that looks like a great site! I will dig around a bit there for sure. It would also be helpful to have a book that will take you through basic maintenance procedures with how-to's, and some LC-specific troublehooting. I know it sounds kind of weak, but I have never really worked on any vehicle I have had before, so spoon-feeding will probably work best here. Thanks!

Random,
first off buy a cheap haynes manual. it will run you through enough info to change the oil and really basic stuff. then graduate to the fsm. heavy reading but worth the money spent on it.

Randomguy, See a thread from me about a week ago questioning a Haynes vs. a factory service manual. Great responses there as well. I to started from where you are, or describe yourself. This fantastic bunch has me changing my own brake pads and O2 sensors so far. Doubt they'll ever convince me to get thru the tru rite of passage into cruiserdom - birfield repack....but that's ok.

Welcome. :flipoff2:

Thanks for the tip, I just emailed cd asking for the FSM and some other odds and ends I need to get.

Thanks again!
