So I'm driving down the freeway and the roof just starts consistently banging after 60mph. I thought it was the dreaded rattle but this sounded nuts. Slowed down, nothing. Sped up and it was like a machine gun.

I pulled off the freeway and inspected - seems the plastic part of the deflector separated from the rubber molding (and by one of the screws there's a hairline crack on the underbelly). At that point I just unscrewed everything and took all the hardware and threw it in the trunk

So my question is - can the plastic shield be connected back to the rubber molding for re-installation/mounting? And the million dollar question? Is it really necessary. My previous two 4Runners never had this fancy plastic attachment. I did notice it blocked a lot of sun out when open though. Hmmmm

Thanks in advance everyone!

I think the factory deflector actually makes more noise on than having it off, at least with the sunroof open. Don't see the point of having one... who has it open in the rain anyway?

took mine off..no big difference in noise.

i never heard a noise really up until the deflector came apart.

does it count if it's open and THEN it starts raining on you ;)

Take it off. Mine rattled and scuffed up the roof a bit.

after i took it off the roof was all scratched up on the passengers side where it was banging up and down. not so stoked about that. hopefully when i take it in for the Wax Job the car wash guys will buff all of that out. I'm taller than the car, I don't like seeing imperfections that I didn't create

Mine doesn't have one. No noise problems.

Sometimes the interior sunroof cover rattles at speed if it's not pulled back all the way. The sunroof only pulls it back to certain point, do the last few inches by hand.

Other than that, you get some buffeting around 30-35mph. I crack one of the third row windows and it goes away.

There was one on my truck when I bought it last year. I couldn't stand it and took it off at a gas station before I even left to drive it home. Junk.

Hm, I honestly find that there's a TON of wind noise with the sunroof open. I was wondering how a wind deflector would help curb that. In my other cars, it made a noticeable difference in noise. The landcruiser is quite a bit louder than my old 4runner and/or any other car for that matter that I've had when the sunroof is open.

Interesting that many here say there is little/no difference. Perhaps it's just poor aerodynamics on Lexus's part, I'm not really sure. Let me know if you hear a difference in noise.

I have one and have zero issues with chattering or noise. As a matter of fact when the sunroof is open I find that the wind noise level is VERY quiet. One thing I have noticed is when I tilt the sunroof I get a good bit of wind inside of the cab, which I like. When it is open there isn't any wind in the cabbing that I can tell. Is it the same without the visor in tilt mode as far as wind inside the truck?

Those brackets on the deflector seem to warp the seals to the sunroof over time causing risk of leaking.

IMO- These deflectors are just another port add-on to screw up the toyota design (i.e. fender flares)

I removed my deflector off the previous 80 and the current 100. They hundy sunroof is quieter than the 80 sunroof.

i agree.
when I was removing the brackets it was already starting to look screwed up. glad the crappy plastic thing broke when it did!
