After hours of searching archives on wheel threads, I've seen lots of people got their steel wheels from Summit or jegs. In most of the posts they are reffered to in the threads as having 3.5" back spacing and are the same as what others sell as Rockcrawlers, and they generally work ok after minor grinding on the calipers.

I've looked at the catalogs and websites. They are only showing wheels with 3.75" backspacing. Are these what you ordered and are using??
IS US Wheel or Cragar the brand you got?

4Wheel Parts lists their steel rockcrawlers as having a 3.5" backspace. I guess I could play it safe and order theirs, but if I can save some $$ and get Summits, I'll do that.

Parts #'s would be great.

Thanks!

I have heard that 4Wheel parts slightly changed their design so that the 3.5in backspacing still hits the caliper. Some are custome ordering wheels from USWheel through Summit to get custom backspacing. I know that the D-window Daytona style wheel called rockcrawlers by everyone have the D-windows stamped. THere is a lip behind the window and that seems to be causing problems.
I run 3.75backpaced Allied Wheel white wagon spoke with no clearance issues.

Brotha brotha brotha......what you do is....

Call up summit til you can talk to a guy that at least knows his own name, then have him call up U.S.steel wheel while you are on the line. and have a 3 way with the two so nothing gets messed up (its not as kinky as it sounds) then ask U.S. wheel that you heard the can reverse the shell to get any back spacing you want, and they will do it.

For the wheels on my truck they out shell was flipped and made with 2.5inch back spacing....(made for the same price as normal 3.75 back spacing.....then a with a lil grinding with the dremel...they are on...

i think it was like 25- 30 bucks a wheel with free shipping...

i went with 2.5inch back spacing to compensate for being SOA... seeing your truck id go with 3.5, inless ya plan on lifting it some more or springing it over to the darkside then plan it safe and go with 3.0....good luck brotha....drop me a line if y a need some help

so even with the 2.5" backspace you had to grind???

Also dont these rims come bare metal and you have to get them powdercoated or painted?

yulp..the inner face or spokes or whatever they are called ( flat piece of metal not the part that the tire seats on)...does not change no matter what back spacing you get. back spacing moves the outter shell inwards or outwards......yulp they come bare metal...i rattle canned them and no one knows the diffrence...

discount can get custom wheels made thru US or Unique( I forget which) they had some made for me, black powdercoated, with or without the red racing stripes, make SURE you specify which. Think $35 each

I'm gonna have to call Discount next time I need to place an order. That price is basic cost for the wheels, then add $15.00 USD custom order charge...from the shop I have used in Tacoma. And add a few more bucks if you want black instead of white. Perhaps the 16" vs 15" adds a few bucks too...

I got the unique (supposedly the same company/factory that makes cragar now and maybe some other wheel brands) d window steel wheels in black with no stripes 3.5 inch backspacing from discount. In the end they got the right ones and they work great. I wish I got the part # but didn't. Call the Discount in Apopka, FL and ask for Bill. He took care of the whole thing. He will be able to tell you. They fit without grinding the calipers. In fact after I had them for a few weeks I upgraded to the 4runner calipers and still no rubbing, although they couldn't be any closer to rubbing than they are. They fit perfect. They come painted already, they are like 50 bucks each. Put about 2500 miles on them and still no chips in the paint. I got 15X8 3.5 inch back spacing 6 lugs on 5.5. I got 5 of them with 33X12.5 BFG ATs. After 2500 miles I am incredibly happy with the results. Although it ended up taking me about 10 days for discount to get me the right ones where I was driving around with rock crawlers in the back on 33s and my old rims on the front with bald 32s. It looked ridiculous. So if you get them from discount you might want to give Bill at the apopka store a call. He is the fj60 wheel specialist there (now). Hope that helps.

Let me check the price, by the time I was done with tax, and mounting it was prolly $55. I use the Discount in Tacoma(pearl st) I buy all my crap there, great guys, pretty sure Discount made no money on me

Thanks for all the advice.
Gives me more to go on.
I guess I will have to go through a supplier or a store just to even get tech info about custom offsets. I attempted to contact Cragar and US Wheel by email and phone. I guess the companies don't have anyone to answer questions and will only reply to vendors and suppliers.
I've been driving a lifted truck with street tires on it for too long. Time to do something.
