I'm starting to give some thought to some summer projects for the 40 when its too hot out in the desert to go play. The first of which is to address my transmission and transfer case. Factory 3 speed setup from an early 72 behind a 2F. They purge oil like its their job and I occasionally get some nice clutch shudder when taking off in 1st gear from a stop light.

My initial thought was to pull them, reseal and re-gasket everything and put them back in. If i'm going through the effort to pull them should I be thinking more along the lines of swapping out to some sort of different trans and Tcase? My 40 is setup with an older OME lift and 33's. I do drive it from San Diego out the desert for off road fun, usually 5-8 hrs of seat time by the day is over.

What should I be looking at? Keep it simple and reseal what I have or look at other options like 4 or 5 speeds, fancy transfer case setups, etc?

Thx
