Hello, I am new to this Forum and new to the Landcruiser lifestyle. I just purchased a stock 1985 BJ70 and was hoping for some suggestions as to what if any modifications anyone would recommend, where I could get these modifications in the Greater Toronto Area and the approximate price for same. Thanks in advance for your insight and thoughts.

Proud new owner of a LANDCRUISER!

Hi All:

So, what do you intend to use the truck for?

Mall 'Cruiser?

Extreme rock crawler?

Expedition truck?

Hunting/fishing rig?

Weekend fun machine?

Each use will often require different equipment and/or modifications.

To start with, I'd focus on the basics - making sure that the truck is mechanically sound, and to neutralize any rust on the body and frame.

Good luck with your new truck!

Alan

Hi Toro. It really depends on what you want to do with it. If it going to be on the road all the time I would get some good road tyres about 30-31 inches high overall and call it a day.

If you want to go offroad,I would get some tyres based on the local conditions(my vision of Canada is that it is one large brown slushy:D)

Wheel it a bit and then decide if your suspension needs upgrading.

Next thing you might want to consider is some type of locking diff.
Somwhere a long the way you may find the 3B is no powerhouse on the road, its fine offroad(except climbing sand dunes).
So then you may want to look at a turbo kit.

Above all ,keep your money in your pocket until you know as much as the person selling the accessories which is not as hard as you think:D

That describes Toronto for about 6 months of the year!!

Sorry. I will be using it as my daily driver, snowboarding/camping trips, etc. No real off roading

Turbo....

Then maybe a light lift like OME for a little better clearance for camping. If you have the stock springs they are probably shot by now.

Can you expand a little on "Turbo". I don't think the engine is Turbo, wouldn't I need to replace the engine to get Turbo? Sorry but I am bit of a newbie when it comes to automotives. I appreciate the knowledge and I only ask a question once. Thanks.

As Josie'slandcruiser said, do the basics first. Change oils, check brakes, cooling system, etc. That is if you don't know the history of whats been done on it. If it's high mileage, it might be wise to do the injectors. If it starts fine this time of year the engine is likely ok.

What is it that you don't like about it that makes you want to modify? Drive it until you figure out what YOU want to improve/change. If you aren't taking it off road you might be happy with the truck the way it is. Unless you are just itching to throw money at it:D.

Canadian BJ70 1985 upgrade

I purchased a Canadian BJ70 1985 and imported it into the states. I posted under saving a canadian BJ70.
The upgrades that I have done include a turbo kit, new frame, new suspension, and alot of small parts replaced. If you purchased a Canadian landcruiser you need to look at your frame closely as the frame rusts you can see pictures of mine in my post or gallery. The turbo upgrade is easy to do and can be purchased from Australia via Ebay for around $2300.00 US. If you choose to run tires above 28 inch in diameter your gear ratio will be off causing the motor to bog down and your fuel economy will go down. The factory tire size was HR78x15 which works out to be around 28". I have 31x10.50x15 and it causes the motor to not run in the proper torque even with the turbo it does not have the proper gear range. I have purchased 2ea complete 3rd members to change the gear ratio from 3.70 to 4.10 this ratio change will make a 31" tire work in the same ratio as 28" tires and 3.70 gears. The springs if they are oringinal will need to be replaced as they break down with age and use, I bought Old Man Emu complete suspension , I also did the rear brake conversion from drums to discs, it is worth doing. Good luck with your purchase if you need more help or pictures email me I can give you lots of info.

you can add a turbo to it. It will definatly make it a little more comfortable as a daily driver. Going boarding it will help with highway speed.

There are a couple kits, axt and turboglide among others or you could home brew it.
Turbo-Glide: Toyota Landcruiser 3B Turbo Kit

Toyota 3B Landcruiser 3.4 Turbocharger Systems / Turbo Kits

I'm sure there is someone close by up there that will let you get addicted to their turbo'd 3b. ;)
