Hello, I'm installing a factory subtank into my 96 LC and have a couple of questions.

The tank I got from SWCruiser came out of a '92 1HZ Diesel cruiser from Down Under. So from what I've read it has two different components compared to a petrol tank.

1. The fuel pick up tube has an extra vent pipe coming out of it where the petrol version only has the fuel pick up tube coming out of the tank.

2. The fuel level sender has two wires coming out of it instead of the three found on the petrol sender.

So my questions are: Do I need to replace the pick up tube with the single pipe version or can I somehow just plug the extra vent tube or tie it into the EVAP system?

Can I use the Diesel level sender with George's ECU or will that sender not be compatible?

I tried to see if I could get the sender from my Toyota dealer, but they said that although Toyota had them in stock in Ontario, they would not sell them to me.

The pick up tube I cannot find anywhere. Maybe someone here can order it from a Toyota dealer overseas?

I believe the part numbers are:

77017-60300 Fuel Pick up Tube
83320-69215 Fuel Level Sender

Any help or advise is appreciated!

I'm in the same boat as well. I ordered the sending unit from akella. PN XXX215. I ordered it because from my research the third wire coming off the petrol sending unit is the one that sends a signal that the tank is empty. I just want to push the button and forget it and not have to worry about damaging the pump. I think it cost around $70-80 shipped.

The pickup tube(s) on the diesel tank, one is 5/16". This is the one that pulls the fuel from the tank. I think the smaller tube is a vent line. I'm not certain on this but either way this tube can be blocked. The problem I've run into is that it's an odd ball size. Smaller than 1/4" and bigger than 3/16".

The lines will be metric - so that's why they appear an odd size...

The smaller line will more than likely be a return line since in the diesel setup the fuel is drawn from either the main or the sub and then excess will be returned.

So, block the return line and just use the pickup line which should go to the bottom of the tank (same as per petrol).

cheers,
george.

OEM set up on Diesel changes the feeding tank(flow of the fuel) from main tank to sub tank when you press SUB TANK button.

Big line is pick up line. Small line is return.

OEM set up on Petrol transfers the fuel from sub tank to main tank when you press SUB TANK button.

no fuel return on gassers .. ?

Often asked question and often answered :)

The petrol 80's use a fuel transfer system (low pressure pump) from the Sub to the Main. The high pressure fuel pump AND return come/go ONLY to the main tank.

So, a petrol 80 subtank ONLY has 3 lines. One small pickup line from the bottom of the tank that the low pressure pump draws from to transfer to the Main. One large diameter filler inlet from the dual neck filler. One medium inlet/outlet (near the filler inlet) that is the breather line that goes to the dual neck filler.

cheers,
george.

noted and saved in the hard drive .. ;) thanks ..

Were Sub Tank option available in Panama or other Central American countries?

In my case I need:

83320-69215 Fuel Level Sender
84560-60020 Fuel transfer dash switch (momentary 7 pins)
Plug connector for level sender, transfer pump and fuel solenoid

let me know, thanks

Is the plug connector available for the level sender? Thought it was not.

You can use an aftermarket transfer pump like NAPA Part# P74019
I think the Toyota pump is something like $1000+

Don't know what you'll do about the solenoid. Ebay Australia might be your best bet. You might be able to score a pump/solenoid combo.

Thanks for reply.
May be, I need to clarify, I am looking for the plug connector to create the wire harness, for sender, pump and solenoid.
