Well, went to fire up my fresh 2F and discovered that I must have the cam 180 off. I used my FSM to rebuild the engine and even going back and looking for a way I could have avoided this I don't see what I missed. How would I know #6 was TDC on the compression stroke without some other indicator other than watching the piston? Not too hard of a fix just a couple of steps backward and a new gasket or two. Dang! :bang::bang::bang:

The dizzy isn't even in yet. Looking for TDC on #1 to line up the dizzy and when the mark on the flywheel shows cylinder #1 is in exhaust stroke.

Turn the crank 180 degrees until the mark lines up again and check.

On the timing gear on the front of the shaft the marks on the gears should line up ever other time the crankshaft gear makes a complete circle. If it doesn't then you need to move the crankshaft so the mark is closest to the cam gear. Pull the cam out and rotate until the mark lines up with one on the crankshaft gear.

That's my plan. Thanks guys, keep the info coming. haven't rebuilt an engine for 20 years or so but it's pretty basic. Still can't see anything in the FSM that would tell me to do it different than I did. Pretty obvious to me what I did I'd just like to figure out what I would have done differently. 50/50 chance of getting it right I suppose.
