I tore up one Detroit already from when I twisted all the splines off of the 30 longfield inner axle the shock load took something out in the Detroit, I havent taken it apart yet but it no longer locks, it tries but I can hold the tire still by hand if on jacks if I apply some strong force.

are you running the detroit in the rear .. or in the front .?

are you running aisin hubs with chromo hub gears . ?

looks like we are in the edge keeping our " stock " cruiser axle .. :hillbilly:

Was up front till it broke now I have my other detroit out back and the aussie up front.

stock aisin hub gears

yea... I am gonna swap in a GM full float 14 bolt out back cause I like to be able to stomp on it and not be worried about popping another shaft.
Up front I will continue to rock the yota after I swap on some 6 shooters and prolly add the chromo hub gears to be on the safe side of bobby warranty. If I start tearing out more Longs then I will have to do something different. :meh:

Those boggers are freaking HEAVY too! I am wanting some 42-43's tho, I got tire envy and those new SX's look sexy. But I am poor.

But I am poor.

you are not the only one ..

Thought I'm gonna keep my stock hub gears, since I have my flanges .. any pic of damaged birf splines by hubgear failure ?

You will find all the little teeth sheared off...

:meh:

David, which model locker is this? The newer case design or the older two-piece case? Regardless your going to need to tear it down, likely (none I consider common) are going to be a damaged piston (#9 on your pic) or possibly a u-seal (#8) bound up in its guide.

thanks Kurt .. it's a RD08 ( converted to run in the front as FF axle locker ) and it have about 8 or 9 years in there

Exactly what I expected to most likely find as well. Found some very tiny metal pieces in the bottom of the housing that looked like they were small teeth that were sheered. :meh:

Update .. after complete tear down .. almost nothing survive .. :frown:

in the process ..

ouch ..

fatal failure ..

I'm happy I got tracition in one tire to help me pull my heavy ass out of that trail .. that was just due stuck pieces in between gears inside the ARB ..

main.php

that was not expeected ..

the only part that it's more less aceptable .. ( or not . ? )

Wow. Looks like complete failure. Time for a new one.

Maybe it's time for a heavier duty axle.

Thanks for the update.

naaah.. If it's too much to my axle I will lower the tire size .. or not chains ?

Come to my mind the idea about a FF locker ( 4 pinion gears ) will be more strong . ?

LOL. You need a 14 bolt. Not sure about Panama, but here in the US, you can get a FF 1 ton axle all day long for $150.

Forget that light weight Land Cruiser stuff.

There must be older Chevy pickups there. a 3/4 ton would have a rear axle you could use and not break! For small $ too.

14B are not that common here .. usually abused .. but means new wheels, locker, gears etc etc etc ... I'm bit purist .. and wanna keep my Cruiser as Cruiser.. with Toyota stuff knowing the limits offcourse ..

Besides .. ( gotta knowck wood ) which fails was my front .. my rear it's holding quite good the abuse woth the PP axles on it ..

If I need to swap .. I would do with 80 series rear ( where I can still use wheel, lockers and gears ) with 80 series rear suspension.

Now I need to locate a cheap ARB for front .. ( used ? ) :D

sucks man. I just popped ANOTHER rear shaft on the orange one, that makes 3 for it and 2 for my white 60. Not fixing it this time, its getting a 14 Bolt.

Hey dude, maybe it's time for some Cable lockers ;)

I can always make you a sweet deal :)

are you running the PolyPerformance rears ? are you going to swap wheels .. ?

Hi All:

D*mn David! You are rough on your rig! :hillbilly:

Time to up-grade to the latest version of the Air Locker! :)

Good luck!

Alan

Awesome thread. We all love some one else's carnage.

I re-read things and realized it was a front. So no 14 bolt. Maybe the 40s are too big. A Dana 60 front with upgrades is in your future!

My junk survived last year with Longfield 30 spliners despite the extremely deep gear reduction. However, I'm only on 37s.

I was soo happy when I was in 37" ( well maybe not that much .. coz you always want bigger tires ) Tencha was bulletproof .. now another jurney starts ..

Should I get all new ring bolts ? or I can reuse the old ones ?

I broke the Poly rears the first actual run I made in the truck. After seeing how they BOTH broke (one twisted in half, other twisted splines over a full spline AT THE SAME TIME) I said I would not replace them when they offered basically no help on the end of Poly.

On the 14 Bolt I plan to turn down the hubs and then drill them for 6 lug. New beadlock wheels are to expensive.
