The essentials box on top goes on the ground at the base of the rear passenger door and works as a step up into bunk area. In foul weather sitting on the food box with my back against the refer and my my legs on the back of the front seat makes for a really comfortable lounge chair. I spent many wonderful hours at the north rim during a snow storm watching the weather, reading a book lounging comfortably.

That was after cruiser fest 2016 If I remember right.

But let’s get back scrap daddy’s construction project and more beer

I'm enjoying all the different ideas and solutions to camping problems. I'm going to make something for the two of us to camp out of and not be a major chore every morning getting ready to leave. We're more used to camping at one spot for 3 or 4 days where the setup was part of the fun. With my new found friends ( influencers ) on MUD that's changed somewhat and not one person brought a set of horse shoes to pitch to a Pig Party, what kind of camping is that. 🤷‍♂️ I used to bring an extra shoe in case we lost one. Oh well, life changes maybe I'll buy the new washer game with blow up boxes that pack down to fit in a sucrets box. :)

My father in law and I built this one. It’s worked great on all of the pig trips, this pic was from the SSS on the Shawnee. Just one big drawer to hold the “essentials“. I prefer that in case I want to carry something long... with a collapsible stock. Its plywood that has been line x’ed. My fridge slides bolt to the top of it. The coolest part is that we made braces that tie into the rear seat brackets so we didn’t have to drill any holes in the floor to secure it. It does ruin it for sleeping inside the rig 😏

Hey Rush, what are you thinking material wise for your drawers. I know your thinking metal, but steel or alum.? Steel would need to be painted or coated with something and we're not set up to weld alum. yet, so? Maybe the 80/20 frame and slide in alum panels. Light weight but not cheap.

I would really like to go aluminum if possible for the drawers. I’m also not set up to weld aluminum or even bend in the lengths I would like, but that could all be alleviated in a day or so of searching around. Yeah, a little more spendy, but so so so overlanding fan-boy fun in the end.🙂

BTW, really liking all of these wood cabinet/drawers being posted also! So many cool setups, literally coming out of the woodwork!

So here’s an idea too -

Maybe before committing to buying and constructing a drawer setup out of aluminum, build a prototype out of wood and try it out on a trip or two to see if the drawer dimensions and everything else suits your needs, make changes to accommodate. Then you didn’t just spend some bank building drawers you wish were wider or shallower or whatever.
Food for thought.,,

And then...
You could either decide you like the wood and want to keep it OR decide you like the layout any want to transfer it over to aluminum, and sell the wood one to an adoring fan. Win win.

That was my thought as well. I thought ARB drawers were made of some type of wood composite?

Composite would be less expensive!! Aluminum is an awesome material, but if you're not familiar with working with it you'll get frustrated real quick 😉 😀

This has always been survey truck porn. They are just really proud and the prices show it. You could get some ideas from here. I know I have.

Take note of the overland (snicker) curtain system I installed. ARB had nothing on me!!!

Included this photo that shows bicycle deflector holding down the front of my pig
