I just inherited a "92. It has alot of issues, but it was nearly free. now i get to start the mods. first of all it needs new tires. I think it might already have a small lift from one of the POs, but i'm not sure. it was parked next to a slightly newer one and it appeared to sit a little bit higher. It has 31 in. tires right now and I would like to go up to 33's, but not without a small lift.
I measured the distance from the center of the hub to the flare and it measured 22 in. in the front. the rear was loaded with equipment and measured 19 in.
how do i know if my suspension is stock of not.
I have searched the faqs... and found lots a great info just not this.
thanks.

Post some pics of the rig unladen and on a level surface. Be sure to tell us tire size and make.

We will be able to tell you pretty much for certain if it has a lift or not just by how the tire sits in the wheel well. Of course, it could have aftermarket stock height springs or a sagged out lift...but you really just want to know if it is stock height or not.

You might also be able to get some of the folks with FJ80s to post measurements. I believe the fender flares changed between 92 and 93...Dan can confirm.

i'll try to get some pics soon...
till then if anyone knows the stock measurments between the center of the hub and the edge of the flare for '92 fj80. that would be a great help.

Congrats on getting a Cruiser and welcome to the club :flipoff2:

Just curious, why are you waiting for a lift to put 33's on?

You can put 33's on a stock 80, and it looks good and there aren't any adverse side effects.

I've got 33's on mine, so do a ton of other non-lifted 80 owners on this board.

thanks,
I probably am going to go ahead and put 33's on it tomorrow. I'm just a little worried that when I load it down with tools it might rub. I don't have a clue how much all my tools weigh. I pack it full with the seats folded up and then also have a reciever mounted cargo rack with a tool box on it. Its alot of weight cantilevered off the back end. I guess if it rubs I'll have a good reason to put a lift on it.

Tires Again?

I actually have been looking for some of the same information. I have a '91 FJ80, and have a line on some BFG M/T 32x11.50-15. My concern was will they work with the stock 15x7 wheels? BFG recommends a wheel width of 8-10 inches for that tire size... Would it not be wise to go outside of the recommended specs for BFG?

Thanks. I have another posting with the same question, plus a little on suspension...

I can tell you I ran Uniroyal Laredo M/T 32x11.50 on the stock '91 wheel and it was absolutely fine. No crowning and wear was even across the tread.

I don't imagine the 32x11.50 BFGs are enough different in size to matter. You should be just fine.
