Hey Guys,
I have read through a bunch of threads on this topic but can't seem to find the simple answer. I have a 79 FJ40 with front discs and drum rear, recently I have been noticing when I have to lay into the brakes the rear drums lock up pretty easily. I know there is a stock proportioning valve mounted underneath the rear of the master. My question is, is that valve adjustable? if so what direction reduces and what direction increases? If not, does someone have a suggestion on a quality aftermarket adjustable valve? I have been looking at this one from Russel if it needs to be replaced and upgraded.

Thank you in advance

IMO, if it is a recent phenomenon, you should disassemble it and clean it out. It's probably just rusty. Nothing is ever going to be as clean as the original, IMO.

This thread has some photos and seems to indicate that you can fix your issue:
